This morning I grabbed my King-G Pants that I wear to work on the Landys and checked side pockets to make sure it's got no coins etc in them , I then took the rest of my clothes and chucked them in the washing machine , after adding detergent I close the front hatch and switch it on , off it went to wash "cycle" , after about 20 minutes or so of Looking around for my Nokia 6110 navigator to make a phone call to my sister , I realised that I've left it in the mobilephone pocket of the Pants:eek:
:oops2::Rolling:

so I reset the washing machine and drained all the water+detergent mix out of it and re-opened the hatch , took the phone and left it outside to alow it to dry , been a really Hot couple of days , anyhow after I was satisfied that all the water had dried out inside I placed the batteries in it tonite and nothing comes on. do you lot think it's worth getting it repaired?

rinse the thing with battery water first then pull it apart and try to dry it again - still probably dead, but it can sometimes work... 20 mins in a washing machine is a long time though!

Hi Mate ;

can't pull the thing apart :( , it's got the Torx looking screws and I don't have anything that small to open it with.

the nokia 6110 (like all nokias) is a piece of poo on reliability terms.. you must be one of the few people that would actually miss thiers.

For future reference if you or a friend ever washes (or swims) there phone there is chance for saving it here's how. You have to act within 12 hours otherwise the electrical components start to corrode.
Assuming you have a jewellers set of screw drivers pull it apart carefully (instructions for each phone can always be googled).
Spray each circuit board out front and back with electrical contact cleaner. allow the parts to dry for a few hours. Re-assemble and enjoy.
This procedure has saved my friends/families phones many times.

I got a set from Bunnings for less than $10. It's got all the really tiny Torx bits along with flat and phillips. 20 bits plus handle.

Hi Rathies

mmmm....the Nokia 6110 has been a very reliable phone , I've had no issues with it at all , Soon as i Got the phone I went to Nokia web site and upgraded the Firmware to the latest that Nokia had out for this particular handset , the battery seemed to last a long while before requiring recharging , prior to that I had a Samsung SGH-Z140 Flip type phone and it too has proven to be an excellent/reliable handset , except the battery would not last longer that 2.5 days on standby . and that is the Only reason I switched from it to the Nokia. :(

Not sure how you come to that conclusion.

I have run nothing but Nokia phones for the entire time I have had mobiles (15 years or so) and I have had one glitch. Phone internals replaced under warranty at no charge.

My Nokia N70 usually locks up with the very common white screen of death when switched on. Nokia want $220 to fix it. Not worth it.

G'day,

Have done the very same twice in past 6 months...damn those phone pockets.

Both were the Nokia 5210 (me thinks), slightly ruggedised looking unit. First was totally rooted. Second one was two weeks ago....phone went through wash and rinse and was still on!. Turned it off, rinsed, dismantled it, dried and put in plastic bag overnight with silica gel sacks.

Lost its image memory and the 3 and 9 buttons didn't work....ever tried sms'ing without using d,e,f and x,w,y,z?

Phones aren't that resistant to the ravages of water against electrics. Claim on house insurance, update your contract or take in on the chin and get a new handset....she's had the bomb.

My old man got his flip phone wet. A month later he gave it to my brother. My brother has a mate who is very computer illiterate, he pulled it apart, cleaned all the corrosion off the contacts and had it working again

So it is possible if you have the time and patience :)

Hi aew;

I wouldn't have thought that one would make the same mistake twice , once was painful enough :angel::D:p
I know I'm for ever checking and double checking all the pockets to make sure there is nothing else left in pockets , specially a mobile phone .:(

Re: Insurance Claim , I'll give em a call on Monday , But I'm not sure if one would be able to put a claim through for something like that?

Wife hates it :p She drew the line when I wanted to keep the motorbike in the lounge room...

But yes, covered under 'portable property'...

They even replaced my silver bracelet I lost driving back from Warrnambool last year.... Yes, it wore the clasp through and fell off my wrist near Mt Gambier... Didnt notice till the next stop :(

For those of you who may be interested , I've contacted my insurance company this afternoon to submit a claim and am told that my home content policy doesn't cover my mobile phone being put through the "washing machine" , it has not been listed as an "Item" UNDER "Special Events" in the "Home Content" insurance policy:(

Ron, give this site a try.

Great help with ALL Nokia products.

In your case, just go to the N series threads and ask away!

Costs nothing and is loaded with tech. stuff and fixes.
