This looks like its straight from a zombie-disaster film - never would have that I'd see something this apocalyptic in Aus...

I'm heading down on Saturday morning, but to crew the truck. I've been doing air-ops for most of the season but this time I asked for the truck.

Good luck mate and stay safe

The Koala pic would have to be pic of the year.
Very sobering, I hope the RSPCA etc is going to get some of the funds raised. Not only people affected.

Yeah I love that pic too but it should be noted that it was actually taken a week before the fires during backburning. Note the line of unburnt shrubbery in the background.

My source is the Features section of today's Australian newspaper.

Still a great photo though, the koala doesn't know the difference between backburning and the real thing.

The preceeding heatwave affected plenty of wildlife on its own without the fire :D......the animals suffering probably sadden me as much as the human suffering.....I love animals.
At least the humans understand what is going on most of the time
I sometimes wonder what the animals think at some of the stuff we humans put them thru :(

Very true, i have noticed quite a few dead kanga's on the rd on the way to work that no doubt were terrified by the fires and while trying to escape headed towards a busy freeway only to be hit and killed :(.
We are about 15-20 mins from the closest fires and have offered to babysit any domestic animals we can.

I was told this photo/film was taken at the Mirboo Nth fires, and he was a local firey aswell. There was an article about it in the Mirboo Nth times:)
