Are swivel balls handed or interchangable left to right?
I've never had both off at the same time.

Talking coil spring axles (RRC, D1 etc).

Yes, I was pretty sure they were left and right as well. I just need to think about it for a bit.

Well quite standing;)

They only become "sided" if you've had them slotted for castor correction

Yes, I have thought about it and they are not sided if you buy them new.

However, if using 2nd hand swivel then there is likely to be a slight groove/depression where the oil seal runs so you would only want to use a 2nd hand one on the same side that it came off.

My swivels were slotted which got me confused because then they are LH or RH

I would refit the same side they came off or get second hand ones from that same side. Pat

best practice? same reason as I like to do that with brakes...

the drums and shoes should be the same left and right but I mark em up and keep em on the same side.

Yea, but why would you go the effort of buying a second hand swivel from the same side? when it has NO effect which side its fitted on

You actually got a reason?

I don't care for that's the way it is, alot of people do stupid things "because, that's how its done here":D , not saying what your doing in stupid, but why buy a swivel from the same side??

I did givea reason...in earlier post.

I did givea reason...in earlier post.

Thats not Pats reason:p

And it doesn't make sense, as the machined surfaces which house the seal are pretty much in the same spot and if swapping the swivel hub to a different swivel hub housing, it really makes lick difference anyway

Plus if they're apart you'd be fitting new seals anyway, which is likely where the variance would be in sealing position

:D

I'm not saying its wrong, it is good practice to refit the same situ, no worries, but if someone rang me and said, could I have a swivel hub from the left hand side.....................I don't think I'd be really concerned;)

Personally I wouldn't care which side they go on as I would not go to all the trouble of pulling it down only to refit old balls with new seals.I do this for a living so I do it that way,the customer pays for the work being done and I don't want to send a vehicle out only to have it back a few days later for rework at my cost, but if I fit a second hand part that the owner supplies and there is a problem it is not at my expense that repairs are done.I know were your coming from but I have to cover myself if there is trouble.
