G'day Guys -

I have a quote on the part from LR which is $140. sounds god so far... Fitting cost was quoted at $450?!?...

Anyway, I am of average to above average mechanical/technical ability and think I will buy this and do myself.

Does anyone have the tutorial for the retrofit? or can give me some ideas on how to remove and install the new one? As I know removing the steering wheel, disconnecting the battery and replacing the blank with the new controls is the high level concept.

HOwever, I am sure I read a step by step somewhere on this....might have even had pics?

Let em knwo if you have done this or have reference to the changeover process...

Thanks a million!

Def90,

Have a quick search on the UK disco3 site, there is a good tutorial there, I know that it is a fairly simple procedure although i have not done it myself, i believe once the panel comes off the wheel it is already prewired and simply plug and play.

Cheers

Having followed the Disco3 tutorial, it is quite simple and only takes about 5 minutes. It takes longer to make the "tool".

make a tool ; DISCO3.CO.UK Photo Gallery - Home > Member Galleries > alinton (http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/index.php?cat=10701)

and instructions ; DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Removing steering wheel buttons? (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic3803.html?highlight=radio+buttons)

most dealers do the job for $75ish.

Thanks for all the help on this....

I wont be getting the dealer to do it, but will do it myself and also take some pics of the process.... at the same time I will do the ipod lead from the passenger side footwell. It will be some of my planned easter activities...

will keep you posted on how it goes..

got a quote from the dealer, $372, includes fitting cost, might go for it one of these days as fiddling with the master button on the left hand side can get tricky sometimes, specially when a 4 a yr old keeps saying "i can't hear dad" :p

I believe they're also known as "stealers" :D. Kidding aside, the quote I got was $238 for the unit and the fitting cost is $154. So if it's really easy to install with the step by step instruction, I might just do it myself.

Def90, which LR dealer did you get a quote of $140 for the unit?

thanks

I ordered mine from UK through Nick Lee (partsmanager@landrover-yeovil.co.uk) at Yeovil LR. 30 Pounds including postage.
Arrived this morning and took about 10 mins to install.

Andrew

PS. The instructions are not very clear on using the tool. When using the tool to remove the airbag the hook faces you, if you are sitting in the drivers seat. Apply pressure towards you and pull back on the tool to release the airbag.

Can I just ask, is it just the audio controls (volume) or radio control too?

It's a volume button , but the other button will move up/down CD tracks,
but does not move radio through your preset selection. The radio scans
up or down. Ridiculous really ...... It's rubbish ICE for the price point.

G'day guys - I am done, just did the steering wheel controls and the ipod connector. Both work a treat. I took some pics and am in progress of putting up the tutorial to help any others get this done.... Thanks Sniegy and also the Disco.uk website...

Sheckster,
You apply pressure towards you on the hook to keep it in place and then pull the hook out of the hole. There is slight popping sound as the airbag releases and it will come away from the steering wheel about 5mm. I had to then hold it out whilst I unclipped the other side.
