Well finally got around to fitting my new hinges and stainless bolt kit today

Here's a few photos for anyone who's interested

A few suggestions:

remove the inner door lining
definitely get a replacement bolt kit
take the door off first, then the mirror and then the hinge
buy Bearmach hinges if possible they are by far the best quality
when changing the top hinges on the front doors, be sure to swap over the little nylon spacer that prevents the mirror screws from ratteling loose. I found this out afterwards and had to pull one of the hinges off again

Are the hinges painted? My replacement hinges came unpainted.

Na I didnt paint them, just gave them a coating of grease all over. I reckon they will be right. If they start to rust then I'll know I haven't oiled them well enough :D

I had a few hassles getting the hinges but the reason I suggest Bearmach is beacause it was the only hinge I came across with a protective coating. It was a plasticy wax like coating that looked really good. Unfortunately the supplier didnt have a set of them so I had to get Britpart instead

Thanks mate

$22.50 each then the bolt kit was about $70 from memory

And then postage on top of that

Hi Jock

Lookin good young fella!

I like the ladder, you will have to be carefull though some of Lonny's traffic nazis :coplight: may give you an infringement for having an obscurred number plate.

Have you posted pics of the roof rack? I would like to see how it all looks. I am suposed to be heading up your way sometime in April, I will give you a call and see if we can have a quick catch up.

Cheers Andy

:( Didn't think of that, the fella who made it specially made the rungs so they wouldnt obscure the lights, but forgot about the number plate. Might have to move that.

Is there any particular place I can't have it?

Theres some photos here of the rack but Ive had it powdercoated since and havent had a chance to post up some more photos.

Yeh that would be good to catch up :) Hows Mongrel coming along?

Well ...

Lesson learnt. Put a protective coating on your hinges. I thought mine would be right with grease, that worked for a while. Then I gave them a good going over with oil, again that worked for a while. But they still got surface rust :(

So today I pulled them off and gave them a coating with that fish oil and lanolin stuff. Hopefully it works :)

I'll have a fiddle and see if I can move the Land Rover symbol. Otherwise it won't fit :( and I have to move the light as well but I guess that would have to be moved anyway

Thanks for the idea DB. I was thinking also I might try and get one of those slim plates so I don't have to have the sticky outy bit on the outside

Hinges look good Jock:BigThumb: - I'm looking to do that job on Scruby soon.

Maybe put the ladder on the other side - Then again, I s'pose it would foul the door :(

Perhaps take the sticky-outy thing (love these technical terms!) off the port side, turn it upside down and rivet it to the starboard?

Perhaps just wait and see if Mr Plod notices:angel: - I can still read your plate;)

Should be easy on Scruby ;) series doors weigh just a tad less.

Yeah can't put the ladder on the other side because of the door :(

Not sure what to do, I'll go into ServiceTas sometime next week and see if its possible to get a Slimline then trim the ends off a bit and it might fit on the other side. Trouble is I just read on the net that the Slimline is supposed to go on the front and the big one on the back :(

Just can't win

Your not carrying a wheel on the back! would you really need to open the door more than 90 degrees?

The other thing to do is have metal welded in that widens it in just that section...so to explain it it would look like you have framed the plate.

The door still swings back just past 90 degrees and would knock on the ladder. Taking my nice powdercoating off with it :o

Are you talking about widening the number plate itself?

Can I legally mount the number plate on the door? Maybe I'll do that once it's been powdercoated. Don't think I'll ever have a rear wheel carrier, we have hills in Tassie and spare tyres weigh a bit :p

As far as I'm aware the rear number plate must be visable and have a light over it.

My old series was on the tail gate of the ute with the light above it and I never got pulled over
