Hi Guys,
I have just spent a week in a D3 V8....Very Nice:D
I am curious to know what fuel consumption figures are out there in the real world...I ended up in my driveway with 12.6 L/100Km's.
This was a vast mix of drivng, city traffic, runs to the shops, highway, slow touring to lookouts etc BUT no offroad unfortunately as the Easter W/end started badly & my Camper trailer holiday fell through.
I ended up in Warrnambool for a few days & had some good times with the kids.
Cheers.;)

I've put about 50,000 kms on a V8. The onboard computer reads about 10% lower fuel consumption compared to filling the tanks (I have a LRA 110 l aux tank). My records so far show using the fill-up calculation (computer results in brackets):
Economy driving on highway at 100km/hr; 13.5-14.0 (12.7-13.7)
Fast driving on highway at 115 km/hr; 14.5-15.5 (13.5-14.7)
In town -suburban Perth- no load; 16.0-18.0 (15.2-16.6)
On highway with 1000kg trailer at 100km/hr; 15.5-17.0 (14.7-16.4)
On highway with trailer at 115 km/hr; 16.6-18.0 (16.1-17.5)
Axle-deep soft sand driving full throttle for 90 kms; 25.0-39.0 (but was having too much fun to notice what the computer says:D)
Low range 4WD over rocks and generally mucking about it burns about 10 litres/hr irregardless of the speed.
It seems that it makes no difference if the roofrack is on/off, the internal load, and with MTRs on the weeks, the consumption increases about 5% compared to Scorpions (I've 2 sets of wheels). I find that 98 octane gives 5% better consumption figures than 95 octane. The above figures are with 98 octane.
My D3 is a 2005 demo and was $28k less than the HSE diesel, so I have to drive about 1 million kms to buy the difference in fuel. My intention is to have it scratched and jarred to bits by then but so far despite my best efforts there are only scratches to show.

Thanks heaps,:D:D
I was really interested in the camper trailer records as this is what i did not have the chance to do over Easter.
They are not bad figures compared to the early V8's in the D1/D2.
So some more thinking to be done.
Cheers.

Nice going stig.
Can you do something about your writing, just use spellcheck.
Its bloody hard to read what you are actually saying.
Does the D3 come in sport? If so what does that look like?

Hi I have a 2005 D3 HSE v8 that i bought 2 months ago. Around town im getting c 22l/100kms. On a recent longer drive from Sydney to Hawks Nest i got sub 10L/100kms on the drive there and back and an average of c 16l/100kms including all driving -which included some same driving along the beach. Didnt think this was too bad!
Can the V8 be converted to LPG though??

Hi Stig,
What is "lph"? Is it litres per hour?

I only use the computer, but if it is 10% optimistic, then your consumption would be about the same as mine. 06 V8

so given those figures what is the touring range; i.e how big is the fuel tank?

bloody fuel consumption,
hobbles back to fuel pump and checks on d1's love affair with the pump,
seems my disco is a randy female, and needs a pump up very often.
looking in rsvp.com for a better friend for my disco, one that doesn't pump her with petrol.
she also loves to follow petrol tankers,
writing letter to 'can you help' in the morning.
idea, morning, self imolation, fire, petrol, insurance,
a plan is in the making.

I have an aux fuel tank, so that's probably cheating. About 2 years ago was able to just make it the 1200 kms from Ceduna, SA to Norseman, WA (showed 0 kms range left for the last 10 kms). Took 180 litres to fill so that was 15.0 l/100 km. This included rooftop tent, heavy load, strong headwind, rain, about 100km of muddy road under construction, so I was quite pleased with it. Less pleasing was the over $300 for the fill.
