Wiper motor repairs

I've got 4 wiper motors here (the early models, one fitted each side). None of them appear to be working. The local auto electrician tells me it isn't worth him trying to repair them. Is there a source of refurbishment/replacement for these motors locally?

I see that refurbished motors on UK ebay are going for up to $200 each, which seems a fairly formidable price. However, I guess that reflects the reality of their scarcity.

The alternative is to install a Series III setup in the Series II, with a single motor and wiper boxes.

Any ideas, anyone?

It is unlikely that there is anything wrong with them that would not be fixed by stripping, cleaning and lubrication, and possibly replacing the brushes. This can be done by anyone with a bit of mechanical and electrical knowledge. The problem for the auto electrician is that it is fiddly and time consuming - his labour cost is the problem - and unless he is fairly old, it is unfamiliar work to him, so he would not be much faster than you would. He would probably be able to sell you suitable brushes.

Replacement wiper motors (that do not look the same though but may be more reliable) are available for less than $100 from, for example, Four Wheel Drives in Melbourne, and are used on a variety of tractors, so a rural auto electrician would be a good source. Either this solution or repairing the original motors would be easier (and probably cheaper) than changing the setup.

Careful with the bakelite insulator, both Shonky and I busted ours trying to disassemble.

I agree with John and have refurbished a couple of mine and now have spares. Strip down and clean out all the old grease, clean up the parts and reassemble. Nowt to it really, as that is normally all that is required.

One of the bakelite insulators was broken on one of mine too, but I made a new one with some scrap.

G'day All, I copied the worksheets for the Lucas wipers, they are in this site somewhere, if you can't find them email Phoenix and ask him where they are, once you see the sheets you will find it much easier, they are dead easy to work on, I'm a reg/nse and if I can fix mine you ought to be able to do the same cheers Dennis:angel:
