Just when you are happy with the way the old girl is going............Pulled myself away from the screen at midnight after reading about how to power up the 300. I remember that the pump had been fiddled with.....but when reading about some other vehicles got me thinking. Then i found the dyno sheet.......
Is it any good, 47kw is not alot but it goes OK.
any thoughts.

Who did the work for you............at a guess my 47kw is about 62hp. Another 30 would be nice.

Pommy66;
I had mine tweeked and Dynoed at Graeme Coopers ,49kw at the wheels. (Safely) ,I recall phillipC saying ,they very occasionally get a "Rocket Ships" from the Factory that when properly tuned squeezes 63-65 kw out at the wheels. ;)

I will have a chat to Warren and get him to take it for a run. Cleaned to cooler and lines out today, also checked the stopes and cable tension etc etc.
I will give it a thrash tomorrow.
I have just got rid of a 4.2 wagon GU....after pump fiddle and a bit of boost (15psi) made 115hp in 2wd.

I got a power upgrade straight after getting my 96 300tdi disco. Cost a fortune, but was worth it. I went from 49kw to 61kw at wheels on standard tyres. The fuel pump was already cranked up from one of the previous owners, but that is not recommended. They had to turn the fuel down, and still got more power. I was told standard they dyno around 42ish kw
Since then i have also removed the muffler, and now have a straight through exhaust, which gave it a little bit more as well.
I want to get an upsized intercooler and maybe look into turbo upgrade/boost but dont think $$$ spent will be worth it for a couple more kws, it drives nice enough anyway.
That may change when i put 35's on it, currently I am running 33" muddies and it still drives ok, keeps up with all traffic easily and cruises well on the highway.
Some reference kws -
NA 2.8l hilux 34.9kw, patrol turbo strapped on it got 55.5, he blew that up, got a 3.0l turbo got 65.7
so i am happy with my little 2.5 with tiny turbo getting 61 hehe

As I've mentioned in other threads I purchase a 98 TDi, had an upgraded intercooler fitted, then dynoed.
Result:- Went from 52kW (pretty respectable anyway) to 70.3 kW (or 94.2HP).
I think it's a little overcranked, and worry about high egt's if I plant the foot for too long, so am planning to get it wound back just a tad at the next service.
But as is she goes like a rocket, that's for sure. :D

Wow.
That is a big gain, sounds like my 47kw is ok then. I did notice a change when i flushed out the cooler. I will be putting on some new silicone joiners this week and remove the air box to turbo pipe....and replace with alli' or steel.....this will remove some nasty restriction.

I have done quite a few mods to my 300tdi Defender, Some worth the money others not really.
First was pump tune. Did it myself. its is the easiest thing I have ever done to it and simple to fine tune. Hardest part was undoing the screws on top of the pump. Discos are easy but defenders are a pain in the arse. Swap them for hex keys the first thing you do, makes fine tuning easier.
This made a huge difference in power and used no more fuel. I have it tuned for a slight haze of black at full noise and a bit of smoke at load and low revs. heaps better off road and road speeds clean.
Next cut the shroud away from behind the intercooler. This lets the air through and makes the cooler work better- good gain on the move.
Then I pulled the wastegate hose off and blocked it with a bolt. Up to you but mine been like this for 5 years and no probs. You cannot over boost diesel. Petrols hell yes! went heaps better. If you dont want to run it like this all the time then its 2 mins to change back
These are all free and all work well.
I have also recored the existing intercooler with much bigger plate and bar core -quite good gains over standard
Replaced the pipe from the turbo to intercooler for one with no kink. nothing really gained might be imagining it
Full 63mm exhaust and straight through pipe.-went a bit better.
hicylones- took them out again didnt work at all.
TJM snorkel- about the same gains as the exhaust. less resrictive than the silly bends in standard intake.
cable ties all around the turbo and intercooler hoses- made it a bit more responsive. silicone hoses -no change over cable tied ones.
Kand N air filter does work and goes a little better but I use a donaldson filter and its almost as good. better than coopers.
hope this helps. can tell you how to tune pump if you like
