This is what I have done to my own car and I take no responsibility for problems caused if people try this themselves.

To anyone that is irritated by the key in the ignition chime when you open your drivers door I have a solution. The wire that I cut stops the key in door open chime but keeps the lights on chime and allows all the interior lights to work as they should.

The wire to cut is the black wire that can be seen cut in the photo. It is located near the ignition barrel and has a black and cream wire going into the same spot on the plug. Once the black wire is cut make sure to put some insulation on the end as the wire becomes live when the key is in and I would hate for any problems to occur. Finally check that everything electrical still works and the key in chime is no longer.

Doing it today, only had the car 2 days and everyone is teed off with all the chiming and beeping (96 ES).
PS previous owner has also disabled nearly all the security stuff cause it kept waking up all the neighbours!!!:o

PPS also found out how to re-set circuits eg., rear wiper which had not worked for 7 years via the rear window heater/ignition process.....amazing stuff:)

That's a good tip - thanks.

To the original designers, I'd like to say:

Why did you not make a chime that stops after 20 seconds or something like that. Once you have been notified for a short period, no more is needed. Seems simple to me.... (Small rant over).
