With all the talk re tyres lately I thought a poll might be informative, not to mention that I need to do something about tyres before June 30.

What tyre would you recommend?

The poll is specifically for 18" AT tyres where the spare will fit as is.

What about Cooper H/T Plus, doesn't it fit the spare?

It's not an A/T.

What are you wanting to achieve with the poll?

Every tyre is different; construction, cost, pattern, availability...whichever one garners the most votes doesn't mean to say it's the best for you.

Just re-read my opening post and realised I didn't actually ask a question:angel:

I'm about to blow 2k+ on tyres and I'm not an expert by any measure:(. I'm interested to see what the majority are keen on. The poll is about data, not yakking on about the pros and cons as the threads on the subject are want to be.

I also think that the core issue of 18" tyres is one all of us D3 SE owners are interested in.

OK, but yakking on about pros and cons is exactly what you want in order to get the info you need to make a call for your specific situation. That's why there's so much yakking.

WhiteD3 is right it is not an AT tyre but pretty robust and will fit, to answer the question.

I have HT+s at the moment but am about to put General Grabber ATs on.

Aren't the Grabbers popular!

Apparently BFG do an R18 AT but they neglected to give the name/size info. Chasing that now.

265/65/18 All-Terrain T/A KO, light truck, 122R, RRP $583. However I'd say that's too large for the D3.

When I got mine they were the only choice with a track record. Everything else was new so I played it safe.

I think a lot of others did as well.

$583? Is that a set or for each?

Divide $583 by however many you consider a set and ask yourself if you'd be happy driving your D3 on rubber costing that amount ;-)

Yes that's each. However, if you buy 5 you should get a discount. But budget for freight, fitting and balancing too.

Just look what they pay in the States for these tyres ( most are imports too ) ex. tax . We get screwed . They're these prices in the UK too.

Looks like the prices are higher in the US.
Check out Wranglers. Remember the prices exclude tax and fitting.

Look through 'em mate , they're nearly all heaps less ......
CC's , Pirelli's , GG AT'2 (just).......
Fitting is 10 bucks ( I'm advised ) & shipping $20

ie. Cross Cons are AUS$441 here vs. AUS$288 fitted in Ca.
......US $183 + 10 + 20 + 8.5% at 80cents US.
This mob aren't the cheapest I believe

...... Am I having a senior moment , A ?

The retailers on D3UK have similar prices on this like for like , as far as I read.
The Alloys are similarly competitive .

These look interesting ;

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp'tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Wrangler+SilentArmor 265's

They have tougher walls ..... you know all about kerb pinching as is remember .. 109t rated so pass the requirement ..... don't have a price yet.

Then it's on with the Sliders etc. and madness begins

Can't say I'm a fan of big tyres though. An extra 1.5 - 2 inches of diameter takes a brave person, short rods and a lump hammer ( to the wheel linings ).

Decision made. Pirelli Scorpian ATR @ $390 each. Good price and good reviews. Next choice was the Geolander but the best deal I can get is $420.

Excellent Mark, I'm glad there is a tyre test dummy for us to ask about non-GG tyres when I'm ready to replace mine. Hope they work well for you.

Cheers, Steve
