My cousin's (update) freelander 1 has done a head gasket. I don't think it's anything like as common on the V6s as the 4s is it?
Is there an issue with slipped liners, etc on the V6?
I wonder about the wisdom of spending $$ pulling the engine apart only to find that it's cactus because of a slipped liner.
Or what about top hat liners for them? Maybe not available?
Nice to get some ideas going
Cheers

Basically the KV6 suffers similar problems to the 4 pot - i.e. slipped liners which gives the impression of a head gasket failure. As you say, it doesn't appear to be quite as common but is that coz there's not as many V6s out there???

I believe a version of the V6 lives in the first version of the Kia Carnival and from what I hear there are very few of these vans left on the road in Aust due to the engine failures - all liner related.

Just had a nice chat with Kevin from Rovertech who had looked at the car. Basically a serious case of cactus rootitus, and the car is essentially a throwaway. IRD was nearly gone, too, let alone the $5k ish for a second hand engine plus fitting costs for another motor that could kill itself in 10,000 kms.
So, I think my poor cuz is going to have to cop a $20k+ loss on this car which she bought from Barbagallo ("no, madam, don't waste your time with the diesels, they aren't any good"). Riiiiight.
