mmm and where exactly do you hold this little Urn at the moment then :D:D:D.

Come on england one more win then a bit of rain and we are laughing:D:D:D

Fair point. Said urn is held by the Poms. It's a little sad you don't yet have the confidence to let the holders of the trophy host it however completely understandable given your recent lack of success in winning.

To see us antipodeans regularly embarass you the host nation in a battle for a trophy based on a game you (the poms) invented must be a little embarrasing.

Silly me you must be used to it by now after all you also invented Rugby and Football (soccer) and hardly dominate at those sports. Maybe stick to tiddlywinks and lager louts, you are invincible in these. :wasntme: :D :D

I sympathise, pom for 33 years, now been a proud aussie for 20. It's really good to live somewhere where we win things occassionally !

Just got to hope the new boys rise to the occassion. In my (admittedly limited) experience it doesn't pay to write the aussies off. Brings out the best in them.

Can't wait for the game to start !

Go Punter, Hughes and Mitch ! :D

It sounds like at the end of the 11th over Watson tried to smash Anderson out of the ground and the pommie bowler didn't like it. Especially coming from a new player on debut. Lack of respect. Good on Watson I say. :D

Agreed, from what I saw of the flintoff - Watson encounter on the replays Flintof bounced him and Watson replied with a cheeky grin which incensed Andy. I hope he gets apoplectic and goes flat out and maybe buggers his knee for the rest of the series, that'd be nice. :wasntme: :D :D

Geelong FC, I originally followed them as when we first came over they were always runners up. got to the final then lost again and again. I like to support the underdog. ;)

Now we have a holiday house down on the Bellarine Peninsula and pass through Geelong on the way down there it seems appropriate to keep supporting them. They were going really well and are still in with a good chance for the finals.

I do hope the boys fight back against the poms and make a show of it. I suspect (pray) they may ! It is depressing at the moment. thankfully reads90 is MIA. :D

A good point Panda. I must admit Ponting does worry me. He wears his heart on his sleeve. As a leader your role is to push them to greater heights, doesn't matter how you feel or what you think. You are there to engender confidence and must have a "can do" attitude to do that. I'm sorry to say it but I don't rate Ricky as a leader of men. I wouldn't let him run my company. :D

Yes, very true. Unfortunately. They all seem to wear their hearts on their sleeves. One of the reasons I like cricket, you can get in their heads & really feel with them. It's quite a personal game I think. Love seeing the different personalities come out & how they cope with pressure & how they react against different players. Can't understand how anyone can't like cricket! :D

Regarding Ponting ... he may not be the greatest captain, but it should be remembered that he is a top batsman. It irks me how quickly everyone forgets how good someone is when they fall ...

Couldn't agree more, not knocking the bloke. A great batsman, one of the very best and I also admire how he turned his life around. People forget he had his own problems early on with the drink. Look at him now.

I'm also not disappointed he didn't celebrate reaching number 1, he was in the zone and totally focussed with his "game face" on. As he said in interview after it will mean more when he retires. Just got to feel sorry for him, he obviously really suffers when he fails to reach his self imposed high standards.

I just feel his self evident desire to do well and have the team fire isn't supported by his actions as the captain. You can see he wants the best from the team and for Australia but glowering at people doesn't usually get the best from them.

I always remember at the start of my career I was given the "one minute manager" book. Basically you get the best out of people by encouraging them when they do something good. You don't train a dog by kicking it when it's bad. Same sort of principle for us all.

196/4 at stumps - not too bad, 90 odd runs in front! Good to see our bowlers have a bit more zing - it's amazing how their confidence changes ... & great to see Ponting on 78, sick to death of him being bagged left, right & centre. Felt especially bad for him cause if he lose this series, he'll be only the 2nd Aussie captain to lose 2 in a row in the past God only knows how many years ... :D:D

But we all know how quickly it can change ... Let's hope the next game doesn't do a backflip :)

Next and last game is on a notoriously flat pitch, great chance of big scores and a draw. We must win this one.

I knew it was time for bed when I watched us bowl the poms over for 102 then closed my eyes for 2 secs and when I next opened my eyes we were 1-57. :wasntme: Nothing to do with the malt whisky I was sipping I'm sure as I only had a drop when we got a wicket.

I think Flintoffs in, good to see, I want to see his shoulders droop and that sad look on his face when we retain The Ashes. Can't stand the ***** personally.

We should be in with a good chance, aside from Lords where they did outplay us, we have had the upper hand. When both drawn matches finished we had the upper hand and were beaten by time lost due to weather and in the last one we absolutely ****ed on them.

No. i've got to chase up some Rangie parts and Birthday pressies for my son after that.

Why can't these poms play at more Aussie friendly hours.

If you hold the ashes you should be able to dictate when you play them don't you think.

Keep the faith guys and gals. I have just invested (wasted) :D $55 - put $45 on the draw at 22-1 and a lazy $10 on the win at 5-1. Seems the bookies think there is more chance of a win than a draw. Reasonable I suppose as if we do bat for two days we'd be scoring a few.

Poms are 3-1 on.

Ponting is great batsman but a lousy skipper. Not going into that test on that wicket without a recognised spinner was suicide.

This test was won for the poms when the coin came down the wrong way for us. The pom curator and the whole MCC were on both knees praying as the coin went up.

Quicker Ponting gives up the captaincy and we get a fair dinkum bunch of selectors that pick on form not reputation the better we will all be off.

If we draw this test it will be a bloody miracle.
