My wife just got home to find that a house up the street is on fire.
Have no idea whether Paul (whose house it is, and who drives a TD5 130) or his wife are home or not, though being a work day we hope to God, not.
Anyway we won't know until later whats happened or extent of damage etc but i thought I'd post on the forum now..
any people in Brisbane who may have anything they can donate that someone who has lost their house might need ?
May not be required at all, but at least I thought I'd get people thinking about it.
Thanks all.

Well the house is pretty gutted looks like they may have lost pretty much everything. The firies and coppers are going through the place doing their investigative thing which I suppose must be standard practice.
His wife's colleagues have arranged somewhere for them to stay for the moment I understand.
Some people just have **** luck... I've also found out the poor bugger has been diagnosed with throat cancer !

Vlad that is like just ****ed up.
Maybe a collection from the other states is there a way we can do it so it's above board and it goes to the persons intended to help ??
If we can do something like that it would be good.
Not saying anyone on here is dodgy just protects everyone, and as i am in W.A. it's hard to give them consumables and also they would know what they require.
Can AULRO arrange charitable trusts for things like that so we can all help.... i know it's not what it's here for but it would be nice to help out

Have been here myself. They will need a few days to recover from the shock.
Decisons as to what they need cannot be made in this initial period. Too busy attempting to save something anything personal from the remains. A couple of years later I still have a couple of boxes of salvaged stuff in the garage which really should be chucked. Stuff which appears to have survived is smoke damaged. Removing the smell can be difficult or impossible.
Once you find somewhere to new to stay is when the support is needed to re kit yourself. Then you need the basics fairly quickly.

Well, an update.
Last night there was a guard on duty to stop looters and protect the site for police/fire investigations.
I drove past the house this morning and you can smell it before you see it ! Forensic police are still sifting through it at the moment.
What is evident is that there is very little left and I'd be surprised if anything much is salvageable.
(Looters, then, would have been **** out of luck).
Paul and the family are staying with some friends as a temporary measure, soat least they have a roof over their heads.
The house was insured so in the long term they'll at least be able to get their own house again.

thanks 3toes.
This is the point of my post - to make people aware so that if I do post any "urgent" requests later, people will have had time to think about whether they have any spare stuff lying around.
I have no idea what they'll need but their kids (a son aged about 10 and a daughter aged about 13) will no doubt want some new "stuff" (toys) etc.
Will keep you all in the loop. Thanks everyone.

Well
The family are living in a furnished unit for the moment. Looks as if the insurance will (in this case, because of the cancer) pay out in cash rather than rebuild the house. They'll sell the (now vacant) land and make a fresh start. He doesn't need the hassle of rebuilding at the moment.
On the positive side his course of chemo is finished and the docs are optimistic that they whacked it all. Fingers crossed.
Cheers.
