anybody running this combo on a defender?

apart from adjusting steering stops any other rubbing issues?

does reversing/flipping the centres help out?

need a new set of rubber for an outback trip next year more than likely will be bfg m/t's

235/85/16's or 265/75/16's will only need to buy 4

255/85/16's should buy buy 5/6

if your towing anything stick with the 235's IMHO

i'd say you'd need to reverse and flip the centres of the disco rims, we had 235/85/16's on the county with d1 rims, they rubbed abit on the radious arms, seeing 265/75/16's are alot wider i'd say they would rub a fair bit;)
Not 100% shore though.

265/75 are the same rolling diameter....yes/no and yes i do a bit of towing that why i'm not too keen on 255/85

I had that combination on my 110 when I first got it, but had issues with fouling the suspension arms, no great surprise seeing as the extra width is inboard of the centreline and the offset is different (to suit the Disco). I now run 235/85 16 (Coopers) on 130 (wolf) rims and have full lock, predictable steering and good handling. Also 5 less modified parts if you find yourself stranded in 'kickatinalong' with a bent rim.

weeds our 245 75R16 which we run on the disco was way to big on the fender

scrubbed all the time:(

i figured i would have to adjust the steering stops, would just mean i would have the turning circle of a 130

i'm guessing steering arms

i was more interested in body work shock towers

looks like i might stick with 235/85/16's....after all she is a tourer;)

Rims are the same offset as std defender rims so there should be no problems there for your deefer.

I have run 265's on the std boost alloys(same offset as disco steel rims and there was no noticeable rubbing, only just on the radius arms on full lock off road.. but very rarely if at all.

all in all there should be no issues. if you want to get the disco rims offset more then and additional 25mm works nice and still leaves the tyres covered.

Cheers

I've done it before. Mild scrubbing on the top of the rear spring locating lip on full articulation. Quite liveable

I have 265/75-16's as well, does rub a bit on steering lock but no biggie, slight offset will help though.
What i do find is that they ride quite a bit "softer" than the 235's i had on previously, just makes it more comfy in the fender.
Next set and i'll be tempted to go 255's - skinnier and taller is the go for my fender

Disco rims have a different off set to defender rims, so will make the tyre fit closer to the chassis by 5 to 10 mm. I did measure it but cant recall the difference. The off set will make the turning more limited too I suppose.

I like the 16 x 7 King wheels for offset and width.

Wolf rims (130 rims are probably the same) sit further out from the chassis than standard 5.5 rims.

I was soooooo tempted to buy 255/85 Bighorns at $280 each. Still regret not doing it sometimes. But decided to go 235/85 for availability in the event of a bad puncture in the bush and impact on torque/power when sand driving.

I run that combo in BFG, no problems! Towed a camping trailer across australia too, no problems. In fact I'm very happy with them. The first day I had the tyres on I noticed a slight, very slight, increase in body roll when I conered hard. On the second day I couldn't remember what it was like on the old tyres...couldn't have been that bad!

Sorry to correct you but if a defender 16x7" rim then offset is exactly the same as a disco at +33mm.

I run 265/75/16's BFG Muds on the past 3 LR 110's

No problem as they have been on 130 wolf style rims... diff offset...
they hit the radius arms only ever so slightly....

Reminds me.... Markets to get rid of those 235/85/16 BFG muds i have...

A mate runs this size MTR's on standard disco rims with minimal rubbing, on his '85 110. I'll probably go this way too, with BFG MT's, but the lower engine rev's at speed for the 255's are going to be really tempting!.

I've got disco rims with 265/75/16 mt's on my county, I find they only foul the radius arms when on full lock, apart from that they're fine.Never had any issues off roading etc

I also think this size looks right for the vehicle ;)

that's what I've run on the County for years (std D1 wheels + 265 mts)... & I've had little need to use full steering lock... just lets you know if you do...

I have yet to come across any good argument for changing from 235/85 16's (for the benefit of those in other states we in Qld can't modify rolling diametere more than 15mm).

Every argument I've heard for wider tyres is IMHO spurious, and they are more expensive as well !
