Long tool drawer under Def 130 CS tray

Hi,
Has anyone any experience/info/advice/thoughts/ideas on putting a long tool drawer under a Def 130 tray.
I'm looking at buying a new 130 for retirement, but Utes and LRs are all new stuff for me.
I am wondering whether to:

1.
Go with what ever crap tray I get and use that for general home haulage etc as I have about a years landscaping before we become 'nomadic', and then get the tray/drawer setup when we are more ready to travel.

2.
Lash out $ to get the tray I want from new, mounted with a long drawer underneath, maybe with a couple of under side boxes as well.


The aim is to eventually carry a slide-on and do some extensive touring.

By the way, where is the spare tyre mounted on the CS?
Is it one of those wind down chain thingys like trucks have?
(you can see I'm starting from the back of the field)

Open to all suggestions/ideas etc.

Not too sure if it can be stored under, as the Fuel tank lives there, i have seen a number with the spare at the rear of the tray, as per pic..

However looking at these 2, iam not sure as one of them there seems to be no spare on it at all.seems to have no spare at all.

Have alook at this one, they have put the spare on the chassie side rail, not bad idea, again hope thats helpfull..

my 130 has a 1800x1800 alloy tray.
I lifted the tray enough to fit a custom 75L fuel tank between the tray rails.
Thus doubling my fuel range.

You would easily be able to do the same but replace the tank with a long drawer.
But then you would have to put the spare wheel somewhere...

There is no factory fitment AFAIK for CabChassis spares.
Most put em up at the headboard, Ive seen a couple who have lifted the tray height and mounted them underneath (75 series tojo style) and have seen them placed between tray head board and cab...

Maybe you could lift the deck height enough for spare underneath, then have a slide out draw that pulls out from the passenger side of the vehicle (would still be 1800 long) mounted in front of the spare.

This would make the slide on sit pretty high and youd want some uber strong mounts to the chassis. My front tray mounts are needing to be rewelded again... I guess 44s and the cape do that but still a hassle and more likely if you put more leverage again on them?????

Hi,
I'm thinking then that I might go with a cheapish general purpose tray and see what I can fabricate myself, or get the measurements at my leisure for one of the tray specialists to custom build for me.
Ain't too many of them down South here, and the one that I do know of doesn't impress me with the general attitude of the staff behind the counter.
Guess I need to get the beast and then tinker with it, rather than make expensive mistakes/decisions on the fly.

I think you will find that they are all cab chassis these days so you will have to order a tray anyways, best to save your money and buy the one you want right from the word go.

Even if that means taking delivery without a tray, which would be your cheapest option anyway. That way you can take it to whoever you are going to get your tray made by and they can run through the options with you.

Other than the 130 Style side... which costs around 2k more..
