Sorry to hear that too, Dave - it's not easy with pets :( - we have just shelled out $1500.00 on our 2 cats. The upside is they seem to be full of beans again.

Really sorry to hear mate. It's never easy as they are unconditional love.
We've been through an emotional roller coaster here over the last few days, our gorgeous 14 YO Lab has the big C which we've been managing for near six months months now, but it looked like the time was now on Monday/Tuesday due to a Staph infection in the tumour.
We all feared it was an MRSA (Antibiotic resistant) so she was getting lots of attention, lots of tears and not much work done for a few days.
Had the call yesterday that it was beatable with AB's and she's bounced back really quickly, (we'd been piling ones for anaerobes into her too, it was a double whammy of bugs) so we've had a reprieve for the time being....

Sorry it is hard loose a good friend, our pet is over 11 and I do not know for how long we are going to keep her :(
We are monitoring her condition and we can see that soon we have to make a decision which it is not easy at all :(

Sorry to hear - but it happens, their expected lifespan is shorter than ours. Perhaps worse from the dog's point of view is if you leave them.

Hey Dave......thoughts to you and Narelle....I know you mentioned it was on the cards in another thread. We do it because like the old adage "it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all" it applies to the pets we have in our lives. I won't bang on about the pets I have lost recently....as have mentioned it before......but now we have Max in our lives, 20mths old and an absolute bugger. Soon he will be sent off to boarding school to comeback as a good boy :D and I don't regret for a minute getting him having lost my other 2 boys, though at the time thought differently. Take care,
Regards

So sorry to hear that.
After losing my pet last year (+ $3000 in vet bills - would have sold my soul if necessary), I vowed never to get another one as it is just too painful when they get sick. Yet I find myself surfing the animal welfare websites at every opportunity.
Not a day goes by that I don't miss my pet - they infuse life with joy.
Look after yourself.
