Was replacing the oil cooler lines today in my 95 D1 v8.
As I was tightening up the oil line that bolts in just behind the oil filter it was getting tight then all of a sudden went loose.
Bugger what have I done.. so I start to undo the nut and it unscrews ok and is not cross threaded. Start doing it up again and same thing happens. Have a closer look with the oil filter off and the nut that the line screws into has cracked and opens up as I screw the line in.
so can this unit be replaced or do I have to try and get the nut welded back together or is there something else I can do.
oh yeah, with the line at it's tightest point oil still sprays everywhere so I cant drive it.

Sounds like the timing cover has cracked. This will need to be replaced as it is almost impossible to repair it. Can you post some pics? I have seen this before, so isn't that unheard of. PM me if you need a timing cover:(

After I put the car together yesterday I hit it with degreaser and it sure is easier to see what is going on now.
Here are some pics.
The first is just general orientation with the new oil filter in view.
The second removes the oil filter and I am pointing at the area with a screw driver
The third is close up with screw driver exaggerating gap
And fourth is close up.
sorry for zipping them they came up as invalid attachments as jpg's. so perhaps 2 & 4 are most relevant
Thanks JC - so what can you sell me?

You have cracked the oil filter housing- which is the timing cover & as you screw the nut in it is simply opening it up & freewheeling by the looks of it. Justin is right & you need another one.
And stop the gym exercises- you're strong enough ;)

Thanks DeeJay - I used to bust bolts off and do things like this all the time when I was a young fit teenager. It's been a while now since I have done it.
Now to find another one....
