classic symptom of a dead fan speed resistor

I think I've got the same problem; sometimes 3 speeds, sometimes none! The engine note still changes pitch on all 3 clicks but no blower.
Is it an easy job to replace?

Also, whilst mine changes with each setting, the highest setting isn't high enough. Is this also a problem with the resistor?

thats usually the resistor pack, as mentioned.

the fans are pretty asthmatic, but this symptom matches a dodgy earth as well as the start of bearing failure. If it starts blowing fuses on the top setting but not on the first and second its the fan motor.

thats usually the switch contacts not playing the game or the earth connection on the fan motor. Easys a relative term, I reckon its all easy in a shed class. its not too bad in a D1 either.
