Does anyone have pics/measurements of the differences in the shifter position between disco and defender R380 boxes?

Hi Ben;

can't help with the shifter position in defender , but possibly can with a disco R380 , as I have the centre console out.I can take pics , what exactly do you want me to take photos off and measure ?

So does the dingus from the Defender box bolt straight onto the Discovery box?

I think he meant the extension housing and shift level/linkages.

i.e. - is it possible to convert a disco r380 to a defender one and vice versa?

Also - does anyone have a measurement of the difference in gear lever position?

Sorry I don't have measurements for Defenders, but some for the disco that could help you make an estimate from the pics are:

Length of main section of gear case is 240mm
Length of extension case (for 5th and rev gears) is 146mm

The disco lever comes out about 110mm (edit to fix typo) behind the joint between the main and extension cases. The lever has a crank to the rear and right - it is approx 50mm to rear.

Edit: in the pic of Defender R380, the lever is close to being above the oil filler plug. This plug is 110mm behind the bellhousing joint.

So the disco lever would be 240 - 110 + 110 = 240mm behind the filler plug.

Thanks John.

Any idea how easy it would be to dismantle the shifter assembly and change it so it was rotated 180 degrees?

(there is always the option of cutting and welding if not...)

I looked at this 9 years ago, you cant do it without taking the whole gearbox apart, as one of the shafts inside wont match up.
