View Full Version : Arnotts GenIII replacment pics

Just finished the replacement of my old worn springs. It was just the rear that needed changing but thought it worth doing the lot.

The first rear was easy enough, about 1/2 hour, second even quicker, about 15 mins. Only a little tricky getting the base of the springs to "seat" correctly in the bottom plate. Just a bit of trial and error with the pressure and height.

Front springs took about 45 mins each, mainly due to the restricted access and the time taken to remove and replace the front wheels. The clips that hold the front springs in are a real pain! Took me forever to reach them, disconnect and put them back on again!

Have only had a chance to do some suburb test driving but can feel a slight difference in improved body roll. I'm sure i'll notice a lot more on the freeway and a 4WD track to Yerranderrie/Wombeyan caves this weekend!

WOW - two of us on the same day who both replaced springs with Arnott Gen 3's.
Lavis i left the wheels on and just had the car raised in high mode. Pulled the inner wheel liner such that i could get my hand and a small screw driver to lever off the front clips and a long screwdriver for the others from inside the engine bay once i moved the air intake from the filter. Passengers side was harder than drivers. Rear were easy although one of my bags was stuck with mud and refused to drop (had to be the first one i did so had me scratching my head) all the the others just fell out. Amazing it is all held by two pins (rear) and a pin and 2 circlip arrangements on the front. Mine seems higher in standard mode so i will need to play with the settings to get everything right again.
Good photos and well done mate! Also attempted my winch install onto my ARB bar but need to get guidance on fairlead install.

Nice one, have to agree about the tiny clips bracing such a large weight?! All about the angles i suppose.

Looking forward to seeing the winch install pics!

Dennis at Rover Renovations is cheaper than Arnotts. Gave me a 10% discount off his standard price and $US100 shipping and they were not that slow to get here. He quite often offers discounts on rangerover.net under the name shupac so keep an eye out or PM him direct.

Firmer in highway and softer in High as described by many :)
Mine were an import as described above and about $AU950 shipped here.

My big worry about changing to the GenIII's was that the ride at normal height might be adversely affected. I've searched high and low and could not find any info on this?!?!

I'm very happy with the ride all round. High setting is softer and highway mode is firmer.

Importantly the normal mode is better. Not massively but definitely noticeable. Might be because my previous ones were very old (although shouldn't make a diffference?!?) but the ride is more stable and the bumps in the road less noticeable.

I hit the tracks around Wollindilly/Wombeyan caves a couple of weeks ago and with a mates vehicle ahead and behind i was able to safely put the foot down and give them a real working over at high and low speeds. The suspension just felt sooo much more confident and hitting uneven surfaces expectantly was not an issue, just glided over. My mates Disco had a completely different ride and when passengers took turns in both, they commented that the difference was like horse drawn cart vs hovercraft :cool::D

Well worth the monney, time and effort.
