Guys,
I have recently acquired my first LR (unregistered) and I am working through fixing some problems and familiarising myself with the entrails.

One thing that has me psuxzzled are 4 white plastic tubes that run from a rail mounted on the firewall. I have traced two of the tubes to mounts on the front and rear axle cases, and the other two seem headed for the gearbox area. There is a rubber hose connection to the rail that has been cut.

Any ideas on what was attached and what this system would have been for?

Sounds like extended breather tubes - stops water from creek crossings being sucked in past the factory originals which were sitting nice and low on top of the axles/diffs and transmission [gear box/transfer case]. A good thing to have.

My guess is that they are gearbox breathers usually terminate on the LHS of the engine bay.
They are mounted high to prevent water ingress

Many thanks...that makes sense. I will leave well alone.

Like Djam said.

On mine, one pipe is for the gearbox, one for the transfer case (plus the two axle breathers you have already identified).
