Hi

Just had the 2000 Td5 manual on a rough dirt track going uphill slowly in 1st.

Is the traction control light supposed to come on when it's working and does it make a noise when operating?

Thanks

Craig

Gday Craig,
Yep the light will come on and you will definately hear it the noise is hard to explain tho..Wouldn't think TC would be needed in 1st gear, but depends on the track and tyres I guess

go give it the beans on a nice long flat smooth piece of gravel road and give the brakes the "stop, stop or we die you bugger" application

the shudder and noise you hear coming from the brakes is the same one as the TC creates because it uses the same pump on the same parts to make the wheels do the Traction control magic

as mentioned yes the light should come on and will stay on for a little while after the TC has eased off.

Thanks Guys .... guess I worried a bit when I heard it AND then saw it. It seems odd that there should be a light on the dash when it IS working ....

Sorry to waste your time .... I should have searched before posting. As always, plenty of info here on AULRO.

TC makes a horrible noise, but that`s what it does.it`s the shuttle valves in the ABS modulator working.
Good idea if you haven`t driven off-road for a while to drive over a few gutters or speed humps or whatever to exercise the valves.stops them sticking and causing the 3 amigos.
If you don`t know them, you soon will.

The 3 amigoes can be stopped, if you maintain the system on a regular basis, it's taken a while but i've got it sused now, change/flush the fluid, check and clean the conections of the sensors and work the TC on a regular basis.

I have done this and my only encounter with the 3 amigoes was a dud/wrongly installed ABS sensor (on 3 occasions:twisted:) which was a very long and frustrating time until I finally found out the problem myself and fixed it myself (I GO TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC NOW) and the connection seperating under full articulation from time to time.

It's amazing what you miss when looking for faults and trusting a well known Landy shop:mad:

Craig the TC light doesn't always come on when the TC is working, but you will here it.

Funny you should say that Trev, Im a habitual kinda bloke and get fuel at the same place each week. I give her the berries out of the driveway to merge with the traffic invariably mount the gutter in the process and the TC light gets a workout. ;)

So good so see someone think they asking stupid questions. I dont feel lonely anymore :D

Actually its the ABS pump hammering under pressure that makes the noise. The shuttle valves just operate switches.
