Looking from the front of the motor. On the outside ring of the compressor, past the power steering pump (logic says it should go round it??) down to the main pulley (bottom of the motor) up to the tensioner pulley then round the a/c compressor. Hope this makes sense and assists.

Ok, so it loosks like i'm missing a pulley or tensioner as the ac has one belt, and the power sttering another at the moment. Thanks fot that.
does anybody have a photo for reference?

Sorry I can't help with photo's. Mine has three belts. A/C belt, Power steering belt, (main crank to Power steering, Power steering unit has the adjuster-tensioner built into the bracket) then a small belt from the power steering pump to the alternator which has the adjuster- tensioner as part of the bracket.
All in all its a bit of a strange setup compared to other cars that I have had but is a Landrover after all!!

Ok, here is one of the photos that Martin has kindly sent me. I need the belt, that much I know, however I also need the pulley that can be seen on the bottom LHS of the image.
Does anybody know the part number for it???

a look at some photos I had of my vehicle, and the reason why the aircon is disconnected becomes apparent!!!

Hoooooly crap! :o
Hahaha!
Is that pulley just a jockey (ie free spinning) or is it connected to something?
Phoenix
18th November 2009, 02:15 PM
I think it's free spinning, but on a spring arm. it's an elusive thing parts wise. I'll have to have a look at some of the parts books tonight.
edit: i've found the part number, 614718 by the looks of it, which is also common to the v8. and my brother has a block not being used that may have one. I'll have to check!

my pulley is not spring loaded, and it is used to adjust the belt, belt goes around the aircon, and then the rear of the crankshaft pulley.I think if you remove the plate it lets you insert the pin that locks the injector pump,or maybe some sort of a dial gauge to adjust the pump timing thats only a guess though, the bearing is removable and can be bought at any bearing place, you may need a press to get it out though.

well it's been snapped off it's mount, so i'll need to replace the whole fitting!

Two bits of info - that tensioner pulley, if you can't get a decent spare off a v8 is manufactured in replaceable version by MR auto (look at the bottom of their page)
mrautomotive - Maxidrive (http://mrautomotive.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=39)
And if you can't find a replacement for the broken spigot, get someone to weld one up from steel - it's only a cover plate and a piece of rod.

I believe you have the right part number for the pulley.
The other parts are:
ETC8853: plate/bracket that attaches to the timing belt cover to support the pulley for the a/c belt tensioner. (The broken bit on yours.)
ERR635: the gasket behind the above plate.
...and if you want new bolts for the plate, I think they are M6x10.
:D

Well I have the pulley that I need courtesy of my brother (thanks mate), but now I need to find that plate.
Seems that I need a bolt as well as one seems to be missing from the AC unit. It was there when I bought it :(

You could try a PM to agrojnr, he was wrecking a 200Tdi Disco not too long ago here in Perth.
Just checked the markets again, engine sold. :(

Ok, at the top of this photo you can see the air conditioning unit
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/12/892.jpg
there are 2 bolts that hold it on, you can see the LHS one in the photo. Now, for whatever reason, the LHS one is now missing (that photo is of my car not long after I bought it.
So it only has 1 bolt now, and it seems loose on it. what are the part numbers, or dimensions for that bolt (I think I will replace both for good measure). I have the EPC, but I can't put it on the machine here at work to see if it has that info, and I don't have the WS manual for this motor, yet.
Please help me find the info to get some replacement bolts! or at least let me know if the LHS and RHS bolts are the same so I can pull the other one out and get it matched.

I can't see your pictures at work but I assume the A/C unit is the compressor. The bolts that secure this are BH606401L & are listed as 3/8" x 5" UNF.
LR have the bolts in stock (about $6-7 each). The nuts are NH606041L but are nearly twice the price of the bolts .
Phoenix

yes, the compressor. that's exactly the info I needed. and with that info, I should be able to get them from the nuts and bolts place for less unless they are something special.
Thanks Scott :D

Right, I can get the bolts locally, the pulley I have from my brother, the part that holds the aircon pulley is coming, I know the specs of the bolts for the AC unit, and then the belts.
From the Bosch book, the belts are
Altenator - 11A0610
AC - 13A1350
PS Etc - 13A1030

Get all this together & then you'll find out why the A/C was disabled in the first place :wasntme:.

:p
I'm hoping that it was because the tensioner pulley snapped off it's mount!

I hope so!
Not sure how I can tell.

Just push in one of the schrader valves (if it has that style still - may not if converted to R134a).
A hiss will tell you it has held gas (good). No hiss = no gas (not so good).
Phoenix
8th December 2009, 12:16 PM
I found a schrader valve on the back of the AC pump, connected to one of hte hoses, and I got a hiss and green stuff come out of it. don't know if that's a good or bad thing.
Scouse
8th December 2009, 01:03 PM
I think that's a good sign. The green stuff might be a dye for leak tracing or compressor oil.

Ok then, an update of sorts.
Bolts purchased and installed, But ....
the AC compressor still moves around a bit on it's mounts. a few MM and a noticable wobble (no belt attached yet). Now I presume this is not normal. I presume that the holes in the plate that it mounts on are flogged out and oversize. the question is, do I need to replace that bit (looks a bit like a U shaped cradle that uses 4 bolts to attach to the timing gear cover), can I repair it somehow, or will it be fine with a bit of looseness with the belt on (I presume not).
If it was ok I would only need to bolt the pulley on and put a belt on and I would be away, but If I have to replace it, I need a part No and I need to find one :(

In your photo above it does look like the bolt holes are flogged out a bit (well the one you can see anyway), and the parts diagram shows a normal circular hole.
The part number for the cradle bit is: ETC8852 A/C compressor bracket, engine code 12L, 200Tdi.
Can you tighten the bolts up more and reduce the slack in the holes?
Or can you pack the holes with something to reduce the play?

If it is common to a V8 with V belts , then the mounting stub has been torn off as well. So you will have to buy that alloy fitting in the photo.
Have a look here
mrautomotive - Maxidrive (http://mrautomotive.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=39)
The pulley is at the bottom.
The Maxidrive one is about $85 and you do not want ot know how much a factory one is.

sometimes last read skips a few posts forward, but that's ok. I'll keep that link to the maxidrive one!
I was worried that was probably the case. not hard to replace, but a pest.
Called the local dealer, $315 !!!!!!! I think I might try and pack it with some liquid metal or something for now!

an update, a thin piece of sheet metal (colourbond LOL) was all that was needed to stop the wobble in the AC compressor. The pulley mount and pulley went back on, as did the belt. Turn her over, and fuel started pouring down the side of the block
I had knocked the return pipe from the injector on No.1 off, pushed it back on, and away it went with no leaks. the aircon blows very cool
Trouble is after about 20 minutes of driving, it only blows coon now, not icy cold as it was. now very cold only lasts about a minute. maybe it has a gas leak, or a clutch problem or I don't know, but I'll get my mechanic or an AC person to look at it soon. She is due for a service anyway ;)
