With the imminent purchase of the D2 and TD5 aproaching ever so closer, chipping is becoming a drawcard and a reason to part with some cheap cash.... if there is indeed such a thing....;)
With the multitude of options out there, I came across Steinbauer at the recent 4WD show here in W of A.
This is the link to the TD5 page http://www.steinbauer.cc/neu/pdf///STEINBAUER_aus__Land_Rover_Discovery_25_TD5_102_kW _1.pdf
and this is the link for the TDV6 http://www.steinbauer.cc/neu/pdf///STEINBAUER_aus__Land_Rover_Discovery_27_TDV6_140_k W_1.pdf
And this for the Sport TDV8 http://www.steinbauer.cc/neu/pdf///STEINBAUER_aus__Land_Rover_Range_Rover_36_TDV8_200 _kW_1.pdf
Now, the analogy, $$/increase
The TD5 - adds 20kW & 60Nm, costs $1952, = $97.50/kW and $32.50/Nm.
The TDV6 - adds 28kW & 80Nm, costs $2865, = $102.31/kW and $35.81/Nm.
The TDV8 - adds 40kW & 128Nm, costs $3327, = $83.17/kW and $23.76/Nm.
This seems to me to be a little expensive, requires hooking into the existing system and doesnt look to be flexible or even really provide a fuzzy feeling in my pants.
Has anyone got info on chip costs and gains?? Would be interesting for those who are seeking and those still not happy with their tweaking!
Tombie, I expect an answer from you on this one! Chance to prove your worth so to speak!! :wasntme:
Cheers

Do search on chipping the TD5.
As you said, there a multitude of options and this one is laughable for the $ and gains being offered.
For these $ compared with other options available, I would expect gains of 60kw and fuel consumption figures 20% less. (yeah I know its a silly ask)
You will find options immediately available from Tombie, TRS, Davis, BAS & Discowhite (there are others which dont spring to mind immediately so sorry to those) for a nearly 1/4 of $.
Around $500 to $800 including shipping/ loading of map, depending on what model D2 you purchase. (this depends on the type of ECU)
All of the above folks will provide more bang for your $ than Steinbauer are offering and they are Landy nuts, so (IMO) have probably got a better clue and therefore mapping for a Landy.
You can expect around 30kw minimum from any of these above and can go all out with some of the other maps and intercooler and exhaust upgrades approaching gains of 70kw.
$16 / kw for the TD5 sure beats $97.50 / kw
cheers

I've had the Tombie remap for a while, brilliant, no where near $1800

Mines +90kw for 440 + I/C $500(I got mine 2nd hand)
And a futher 20kw for $120 with the added boost (BAS boost box)
And $90 for EGR removal
And $130 for Silicon I/C hoses
All up +110kw and over 200nm for 1280
I think that is fantastic value.

Im still not conviced that any chipped TD5 in Australia is 200kw.
Lara who has probably the best and most modified td5 in the world, running 26psi, 2.8litres, huge turbo, tubular manifolds, and also head work is still just under 200kw (195kw-265bhp)

He also had axles made out of 300 maraging (same as F1) to cope with it prior to swapping out for Spider 9's

That would be at the wheels.
My guess would be that quoted kw with chipping would be at the fly wheel.
For the record my std turbo pulls 25psi easy

Don't know figures on my TRS chip and intercooler upgrade but I am more than happy with the increased pwoer and torque that the $1700 bought.

Yeah Tombie's input would be great. Dont get me wrong I think his chips are excellent, I'm just not convinced by the 200kw figures that get banded about.
Would be interesting to see a RR result, and I would happily eat my hat if 200kw came up!
I spent years building, modifying, and mapping my own race engines and getting that sort of percentage power increase take a huge amount of work to do reliably.

As in my opening statement, I am hoping tombie will reply to this as I hve his in mind.
TRS I have doubts about as myself and one or two others I know who have had issues with them and I don't think they re all they cracked up to be.
Plus tombie is an AULRO member.....
