Ok where to start, I'm getting desperate.

Lost my headlights on the way to Perth last week and assumed it was the switch burnt out as usual. No it was not the switch. Still had park lights and hight beam if I held the high beam switch pack.

Ended up at an auto electrician. After 5 hours labour they ring me to tell me they have isolated it to a relay box (pink and labelled YMC 10050/ dealer has same part as YWC 10050L). I have rung everyone and I have to wait 3 weeks to be sent from the UK. Now the questions.

1. Does anyone know about this relay (it is not in the workshop manual).

2. Do they exist in a DiscoveryII V8 as a friend has a wrecked one were he can post me the relay.

3. Where do they go when I do get my hands on one. All the auto electrician could tell me was that it was behind the instrument panel (which i removed easily as the 4 screws are missing some $450 in labour later!), but I can't seem to find were it is missing from.

Any help would be appreciated.

Brett.

I think I'd be trying another electrician.

If you have parking lights & the high beam operates when you pull back on the switch (flash mode), then the problem is going to be in the dip/indicator switch istelf. It's a very common failure point with the Defender.

Once it's sorted, fit some common relays to the lights or get a Traxide kit (easier).

As far as I can see the failure of that relay can cause exactly this issue too Scouse.

If you have it, it is the pink one mounted on the firewall behind the instrument panel, next to the 10as (green) box thing.

There seems to be some serious confusion on this relay and its operation. There are a few threads if you search google.

OK, thanks.

Interestingly, a dealer I am acquainted with ;) has never bought this relay from Land Rover & they have quite a few Defenders through there.

Brett,

I have just looked through my stuff and I have one here. Its second hand, but I can send it you to use, if you send my one back when you get your new one.

Let me know. Can get it posted this afternoon if you like.

Pete

Pete thanks heaps for you offer. I will PM you after I find out if this Disco has one.

In regards to the issue it is absolutely not the switch which I have replace in the past, and hence why I raced out to get a new one last week. The old one tested OK, and the new switch made no difference to the problem.

The problem was also awhile coming. During the past few months I would lose all head lights for a few seconds switching between high/low. I also had the lights just turn on (with high beams and spotlights) after it had been sitting for a day with the ignition and light switch off. I had to start the car and turn off again to turn them off.

This problem has co-incided with the destruction of my third fuel pump in as many years :(

Brett.

Any chance someone with a parts catalogue could check if this part is listed for a V8 DiscoII?
