Hi Guys

so after owning the defender for a whole week, i have a question about noises... now the vehicle is fairly quiet.. except there is noise in 4th and 5th gear like a gearbox whine. the noise is there just in 3rd when feathering the throttle and also 4th.. if you accelerate hard then the noise in 3rd and 4th isnt as bad.

after a bit of a search am i assuming that the transfer case may be a bit low on oil?

or... is this normal? the gearbox has a lot of vibrations through it too... but as im used to a disco II td5 auto.. i dont know if this is all a normal thing :)

Thanks in advance!

Steve

now the vehicle is fairly quietI would get this looked at. That's definitely not normal.

Sounds normal ;).

The TC oil can be easily checked but a slight whine is quite common.

Thanks mate.. the first thing i was more worried about... its really not much worse the the disco... but the transmission feels lots rougher.. probably the difference between the deisel through an auto and manual.

i will check the oil just in case as we have a fairly long run just after xmas.. im assuming at speed also there will be a bit of diff whine contributing to the noise...

all new to me.. so i'm just making sure!
