Gidday all, J
Just discovered this forum yesterday and impressed by all the advice available. I am about to order a new Discovery 4 3.0L HSE and was going to option it up as will probably have it for many years. We will be mainly using it to tow a caravan (1500kg Geist) so it won't have any problems lugging that around. I intend to order the surround camera system and was wondering if the camera I have mounted on the caravan could be fed through the car's camera system, or at least viewed on the cars 'monitor' rather than fit a separate one. I have all parts to fit as removed them from the juice guzzling Territory I recently disposed of.
Additionally was considering ordering a sunroof but believe this comes at the cost of losing rear air conditioning over the 3rd row.
I have decided to order the electronic rear diff lock having read the forum yesterday although won't be doing a lot of off road work.
Is the updated Harmon Kardon sound system worth the dollars or is the standard system adequate. I'm not in to the 'duff duff' sound from the young kids cars but appreciate quality sound.
Hope I haven't asked too much on my first post.
Looking forward to your advice.
Nifty (couldn't register as that, obviously others in existence)

Hi and welcome.
I can only help with one uestion and the H/K is worth it.
My mate went to trade his D3 V6 petrol in but bought a D4 and kept the D3 also as a $21k trade was just a joke.
H/K is still only a chinese make Harman Kardon, that is, it has a european ring to it but sounds very good.
The car we drove had the upgrade and I think he counted 10 speakers, very clear.
They had no 3L there to drive but that was too much anyhow but loved the ride.
Made my old thing look and drive like and antique.
Those uestions you may have to ask the dealer/stealer.
I would wait for delivery till 2010 though otherwise in 2 weeks the car is already last years if you know what I mean.
All the best.

From a dealers point of view, No it cannot be fitted to the original monitor as there are no inputs to speak of.
But if the dealer uses a Audio system specialist they "may" be able to retro-fit it. As of yet we have not been able to, but in time it will happen as modules & more adaptors become available.

This is incorrect as the sunroof is an option in the 3.0 HSE, you will not lose the A/C as it comes up to the roof via duct work in the "C" pillars from the fan/blower in the L/H/R 1/4. The Vents in the roof will remian. Go ahead & order.

Excellent choice for little money.

The sound quality IS noticable & really that is something you will need to determine. The extra 5 speakers & 240 Watts is rather quite good. It really depends if the $2K is what you thinks its worth?

Welcome & never, thats what this is all about.
Looking forward to your advice.

Thanks for the advice. I have confirmed with my local dealer that the issue with the sunroof/rear airconditioning relates to the actual rear air cond control unit. The air cond vents are still in place and function but the control unit is inoperable. The control unit facsia is still in situ but control dial positions are 'blanked' out. The sunroof also poses problems with other accessories. According to the Land Rover literature, the following accessories cannot be fitted in conjunction with a sunroof:
Rear screen entertainment pack
Hybrid TV
Adaptive bi-xenon headlights
The local dealer couldn't offer a plausible explanation as to what the headlights have to do with the sunroof so it's still a mystery to me.
cheers

Nifty,
i will double check at work tomorrow as i am sure i PD'd a new 3.0 HSE today & its spec was what u require wrt Sunroof & Rear A/C.
They were all there & functioning.
I have also just finished a press check on a vehicle that was also a 3.0 HSE with the lot & again it had all the bits.
Now i am assuming you have been told that the 3 dials/switch pack in the "roof" above the 2nd row passengers gets filled with a blank? Am i correct with what you are stating? I just want to get it all correct when i get into work tomorrow.
WRT the other functions that you cant get because you order a Sunroof is correct.
RSE/TV is because of glare apparantly:(
Yet it is fitted to the V8 HSE as standard!?
Adaptive lights.... I dont have an answer either:wasntme:

Yes you are correct with the 3 dials/switch pack in the roof over the 2nd row passenger seat. Get the sunroof and don't get the dials. Can't see any point in getting a sunroof if you lose the rear air cond operability which you have paid extra for when you buy the HSE.

Nifty,
I can confirm that YES it is available.
I have just re-checked 3 vehicles, all HSE 3.0 & they all DO have rear A/C with a Sunroof fitted.
Cheers & Merry Christmas.:D

Thanks Pete,
I'll take this up with the dealer. The sunroof would be nice but the other accessories have a higher priority (adaptive lights & rear entertainment unit - for the grandkids) so it looks as though I'll have to give the sun roof a miss.
