OK I just can not resist.

1997 -99 P38a's for around $11k

For this price I imagine I'm going to have to change the air suspention - no biggie I like the idea of the Arnotts Gen 3.

Why do some people reprogram there ride hight with the Gen 3's and others not. What difference does that mean for the ride hight at each setting?

Gen III's give a few inches of additional travel over standard air bags. Unless you've got shocks that can handle the extra travel, the shocks will max out too soon and give a "shocking" ride ;)

Gen III's also behave better at higher settings than stock air bags, so the theory goes that you can raise the standard height of the car by an inch or so without affecting handling.

On my previous P38A, Gen III's made a significant difference to the handling at factory height settings.

My current P38A has Gen III's with a 2" suspension lift, custom Bilstien shocks and me playing with EAS height settings. It does not handle as nicely as my old one.

Cheers, Paul.

If you have the Faultmate or Story Wilson's software plus the bespoke serial OBD cable, you can set the heights at virtually any setting you wish... However, and there's always a however:o
PaulP38a's observations have several implications which need to be seriously considered...
*drive line angles are fairly critical... significant deviations from standard OEM settings start to introduce unintended consequences for driveline stresses, vibration, sensor displacement angles, handling, etc
* capital cost of the vehicle may be reasonable but maintenance might break your heart!! ...or your wallet or both:D but being a "D" owner you are probably already sensitised to this:twisted:
* if you are looking for the "real" P38 experience then the latest (revised)OEM air springs and shocks are difficult beat in terms cost and performance.

good luck...hope you find a "goodun";)
