I have a 36DxxxxxxG LT230.
It seems that these have a 38 tooth input gear (instead of 28), and were fitted to late model 300tdi discos.
Can anyone confirm this?
Are these the "Q" cases???

I thought the LT230Q (quiet gears) came out with disco II, but apparently not so. Pic below from LT230Q overhaul manual.
The following quote from Ashcroft Transmissions site (http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk):
We can supply both the earlier (26th tooth) and later cross-drilled (26th and 28th tooth) input gears.
To identify which type you need you will need to look at the your transfer case serial number. The last letter of this will denote whether your vehicle is able to accept the later cross-drilled type. A transfer box with the suffix A or B will only accept the earlier 26th tooth, non cross-drilled type (FRC5428). A transfer box with the suffix C onwards will accept the later cross-drilled type. To see how to identify your transfer box number please look in transfer box introduction.
Suffix A or B use a FRC5428,
If you have a 200 Tdi Disco or Defender or a 300 Tdi defender these all take a FTC5089.
The 300 Tdi Discos have a FTC5087 except for the later ones that were fitted with the 36D suffix G transfer case that have a 38 tooth gear that is already cross drilled and thus rarely needs changing..
If you find you have the earlier type we are able to supply the oil feed plate which will enable better oil lubrication.

Thanks - so it seems I do indeed have a Q case...
This may be the case that Warren from MR told me has a 1.21 high and 3.26:1 low... (I need to pull the cover and count teeth...)
I also realised my other case (28D......E) does not have a cross-drilled input gear - so I have some drilling to do...
Where can I get a copy of that manual?

Hi Guys,
I have a 2005 td5 Def and want to put in a Disco LT230 but don't know much about them. I want better gearing for the hwy and less noise. I have found a second hand LT230 which is apparently a Q model serial number A936D719054G cross drilled type.
A couple of questions for those in the know:
1, Can I swap the gears from this into my defender box?
2, Would this have the centre diff lock and will I have to swap my top cover plate? How do I tell if the CDL is there?
3, Will the handbrake and speedo all be in the same spot, easy swap over etc
Thanks Guys!

To see if it has a CDL,there is a 10mm bolt above the front output where the front tailshaft bolts up.If there is a 10mm bolt it has a CDL,if there is a smooth flat area on the housing,no CDL.
Cant help with the other questions.
