Hi all,
I have currently a D2 TD5 and I love it. I am seriously considering the D4 TDV6 2.7.

Has anyone had them in serious off road conditions and what is the gerneral consensus?

I would be looking to option with off road bias tyres, but I believe there is limited choice. It's a lot of bucks, but they sound like an awesome vehicle. I'm pretty set on one, but have my reservations around all the electronics etc.

All comments welcome.
Thanks.

usually only let down by the rubber and the lack of sidewall.

D3s are much more capable than the D2s.

Lots of choice if you keep to 17" tyres.

D4 & D3 are just amazing off-road tools, even on standard rubber. Stick some mud tyres on and they're unstoppable.

My off-road weapon of choice is the TDV6 Auto with Goodyear MTRs.

Hey Guys

Only had my D4 2.7 for a couple of weeks and only done some mild beach work and some 4x4ing up near oberon. 4x4 for dummies it is that easy;)

I should have bought one years ago:)

I have Continental Croscontact A/T's, very good so far.

Cheers

My impression is that if you have survived a D2 TD5's electronics and the ABS modulator, a D4 shouldn't be a worry.

Thanks for the comments. Sound fairly promising, the only thing is the new D4 comes with 18 inch wheels and the choices are limited. I run Cooper ST's at the moment and they have been great, but not available in R18. So might have to look at getting a set of R17's for the weekends. Also does anyone know who makes a spare wheel carrier?
I remember at the Melbourne 4x4 show last year a company called 4x4 intelligence but I can't find a website. Anyone know if they are still around?

Check out related threads on the pros and cons of the 2.7 and the 3.0litre. Plenty of healthy debate there. The 2.7lt comes with 18's, but the 17's can be retrofitted if you wish. The 3.0 lt comes with 19's and due to the larger rotors and calipers std, cannot be retrofitted with smaller dia. rims. There is a thread on having some 18's manufactured to suit. Have a look at the FAQ at the beginning of this channel for more data.

NB: If you ever want to possibly have 2 x wheel carriers, there is no way a left and a right would fit with these.

Hi Hedley,
The 4x4intelligence website was:
Domain Temporarily Parked with Dreamhost.com! (http://www.4x4intelligence.com.au/)

but I see that it is currently "parked" with the promise of a new website "coming soon".

Depending on your urgency, you could PM simon_arch1

Goodyear make the Goodyear MTR in a 255/55/19 for Land Rovers.

Check out

Goodyear-4x4 Tire (http://eu.goodyear.com/uk_en/tires/repository/WranglerMT_R/index.jsp?page=sizes)

Not sure if or where you could get these in Australia but you could try your local Goodyear dealer.

I've had 5 19" MTRs for the past 2 years and they work better in both sand and on hard rock than any low profile tyre ought to (last one was >$650:eek:, so for that price they ought to be somthing special). They do need a bit of thought for tyre pressures to get float on sand, but also to make sure the tread doesn't impact and crack the rims.

It looks to me that the Dolium spare tyre carrier is designed to just give the 45 degree field-of-view to the brake/tail light and the licence plate, so there's no need for a separate stop/drive light and/or licence plate bracket. The inevitable compromise is that it would prevent 2 tyres on the back.
