Rotate the hand break lever away from your leg , or get rid of it all together and put a rangi / disco one in next to the cubby box.
Set of 20 mil tube seat rails ( new longer high tensile bolts req).
Think of something or do a search here, some ones bound to have done it before.

That will be quite enough of that....

that attitude is reserved soley for use against puma owners.

back on topic

what did you want to achieve? are you modding for the sake of modding or do you have an end objective?

Muzza99,

Silly question time.
Why do you want to modify it? What doesn't it have that would improve it? (apart from communications equipment of course.)

If your shock absorbers are standard,,lower the top of the rear ones, by 2 inchs,(50 mm).:)

I'm another one which would question your motive.

If you're changing things just for the sake of it, don't bother (if it ain't broke, don't fix!). Instead, just spend your time & money getting it serviced properly.

Also, if you're new to this 4x4 thing, get some training. Decent servicing & proper driving skills will save you loads of grief (and $$$) as you will be less likely to break things. (Getting stuck, with a broken car is a PITA!)

1. Dual batteries in the standard battery compartment.
2. Mod rear seats so they swing forward for easy access to under seat
storage area and on mine I made them quick removable. (130 )
3. shave rear diff ......quick and easy job to gain 1/2 inch clearence
4. Add heavy duty axle drive flanges and replace worn axles if required.
5 Add head light relay so head light switch doesnt burn out.
6 add brass plumbers BSP plugs to radiator and thermostat housings and the same size fits the gearbox oil level plug so you will not need a special tool to undo it and can use a shifter.
7. Add dual power sockets to the rear tray or HCPU ( 130 )
8. Add grease nipple to drag link rod ends.
9 Use Z9 filter for lube on motor.....cheaper and no problems,
10. add extra fuel filter by replacing the water trap at the LHS rear wheel with a CAV type filter with a glass bowl as it is cheaper to replace that filter and you can see whats going on with the glass bowl.

All cheap and easy stuff to do.

Just put cash into maintaining it and servicing it well as mentioned above and get some good tyres and suspension if the suspension hasnt already been done.

A defender is a capable truck in its own right.

PS, there is no such thing as a cheap modification, but you can safe money doing things yourself and fabricating bar work and internal draws and the like as already mentioned.

swap hand brake to left hand side put close to hump on an angle ,you dont loose any leg room on that side but you get a new car on the drivers side at 5;11" this is joy for the legs ,isnt a hassle to lean over slightly to put park brake on,.in stall a low water alarm .worth ever cent ,brass bleed bungs on cooling sytem about $15 each. dont run big wide tyres this will wear out axle splines .dual batters can be fitted on chassie rail if your handy with a welder make a frame and bolt it to chassie. the list goes on and the oil leaks i dont think they ever stop .enjoy you ride

I've got a 110 V8 - removed the sway bar, I can't tell any difference with the body roll / handeling, except that it feels a little smoother and refined to drive. Dont know if I gained any more travel with the standard suspension though.

I removed the sway bar on the rear of the 130 and it improved off road performance and made no difference on road what so ever.

do not, i repeat DO NOT do this 'mod', you will be sacrificing valuable up travel and risking the chance of bottoming out your shock absorbers, if anything buy longer rear shocks and raise the rear mounts to suit, then you will gain some useful travel

that being said, there is plenty of travel from standard, i dont see the point in limiting it by lowering the mounts

Once you start......it becomes infectious. Be warned!!

Maintain it and enjoy it.

Clearly you need portals ;)

Seriously though, give it a bumper to bumper IRAN and a new timing belt. Buy some good tires and some camping gear, then use it and see if you find deficiencies. The joy of the defender is how good it is out of the box.
