    The Impossible

    Gday All
Went and seen this movie today and all I can say is take the tissues.
Maybe not the greatest film ever made it is supposed to be a true story not based on the story.

The footage of the sunami is amazing and an eye opener on they aftermath of it.

Worth the cost of the tickets and the box of Kleenex as well.

    Cheers Ean

I stayed at the Merllin at Khao Lack about 12 months after the tsunami.
it was pretty eerie walking along the beach past all the ruined hotels. They are all situated on a sand bar with a creek behind so were very low above sea level.

The Merlin at ****et called the Merlin at Khao Lack when the wave hit there and they got all guests to high ground and it is the only hotel on that strip that is on a hill.
I saw the promo on TV and the wave scene looked authentic as far as the cabins were concerned.
Funnily enough very few locals were killed as the wave never made it to Khao Lack town, however about a KM north there is a market and there was a River patrol boat ( I assume given by the Yanks) on the hill behind the highway. I don't know if it is still there as it was about 50-60 feet long.
    Regards Philip A
Now that is a bit strange . For ****et read large island with airport and town of Patong on it.

I was there just shy a year before, and seeing it all on the news was quite surreal.
Thanks for the tip about the film. I've never really been one to go to the pictures much, but I might go and see that one.

I thought it was a good movie and could really associate with it as we were also there around 12 months after the Tsunami.

Those poor people on the foreshore wouldn't have stood much chance
