We had an LJ50 hardtop back in the late 70's early 80's and it was a fantastic little machine. The little jigger had over 100 thousand kilometres on the clock when we sold it and it was still going strong. The secret to long engine life with them was to keep clean oil in the tank. The failure of so many, was people topping up the oil tank in dirty conditions and getting crud in the oil tank. Next thing you know there is a blockage with the oil feed and the motor is cactus. I used to pull the tank off and wash it out about every twelve months to remove any grime that may have settled in the bottom of it. The hardtops had a higher ratio transfer case then the softops!
Only recently I sold an LJ20 motor, two cylinder 360 cc, as it had been replaced with 1300 Corolla motor and gearbox(back in the day). I still have the gearbox here if anyone is interested. The LJ20's were great in the paddock, but very slow on the road, as they had a top speed of not much more than 60kph.

    Cheers, Mick.

    4X4,

The rust is in perfect condition, it's the rest of the body that is not too good. My restoration skills will be tested.

I had a good look at the other eight today, not all are LJ50's but a couple of LJ80's as well. A couple would be rebuildable with complete fibreglass bodies. One LJ50V II and one LJ51 (I think) It is still covered in crap, but it has a tray.

I will get two more, one for parts and another that has a complete aluminium front end - not an amateur job either. The one with the 12a is beyond repair - body paper thin and engine seized.

    Bushrover They did't make a LJ51..

And a LJ50V 11 is a LJ80 hardtop with LJ50 running gear.. Extremely rare in Australia..

Awesome LJ20's are worth quite a bit these days..very very rare in Australia.

My competition Suzuki LJ is going to run a LJ81 chassis and body with a early sierra 1 litre motor, with 2 stroke gearing..LJ50 diffs and LJ50 softop transfer

Once it is out from under all the junk, it may be an LJ50 with LJ80 bonnet, guards & front panel. I am being optimistic and hoping I have found something rare with both of these. He has some pretty incredible stuff.

I have to get a few photo's. The old guy is a bit sensitive about advertising what he actually has. With all of the junk piled on everything no-one could steal anything and to get anything out of his shed would require the roof to be removed and a crane.

Sold it to finance my Formula Vee. My D2 went just about every where the Zook did and was cheaper to run with more comfort. That's also where Zute comes from, Zook Ute.

I've got a '86 Blue LWB Sierra with a white canopy in the shed, waiting to be restored..... Hopefully when the kids get older they might get interested in helping.....
