    LDV T60 Four Wheel Drive Dual Cab

    Has anyone had any experience with the newly released Chinese LDV T60 four wheel drive dual cab ute?
    What do you guys think of them?

    From what I have read the journos from the various organisations seem to be generally supportive of the ute. Yes – they do find some small niggles- they wouldn't be motoring journos if they didn't – but these whinges seem to be somewhat trivial. This is most unlike the reviews accorded to other Chinese imports as well as the Indian utes when they first arrived here in Oz.

    I thought the specs and pricing of the LDV T60 were impressive. If the drive experience matches the equipment and price levels then initial sales may well take many by surprise. The monkey in the cage however is long term reliability and parts prices.

    So far the T60s are only available in diesel spec but from what I read a petrol variant is on its way. To my way of thinking petrol engined cars suit the driving habits of the average urbanite with much running being sub 5 km trips aka schools, shops even work etc. Short trips ae not a strong point of diesel engines with their complex anti pollution gear.

    Not sure that there are too many reviews on the ute yet, as they are a fairly new release. They did well in the ancap ratings. The LDV vans have been around a while and are used by couriers, commercial operators in NZ, there may be some reviews as to the longevity of the vans, which may give some idea.

    I did check the LDV van ownership reviews out and the experiences posted are generally positive.

    Well the company was part of British Leyland as well so presumably things can only have improved under private ownership?

    I enquired about these as also looking at the Foton and Mahindra, these are now the norm in South Africa and beyond and are starting to get very good reviews, in Oz the Mahindra and LDV dealers could not have been more helpful and honest, after contacting Foton 2 weeks ago I have not heard a thing...

    The Mahindras are very popular here in Madagascar, Zambia and Nambia and handle everything thrown at them, remember these cars are developed in countries with absolutely rubbish roads, poor maintenance and less than gentle drivers... etc...

    Even if they are okay or good, there is the issue of depreciation, and its going to be bad.

    here you go - they look a bit triton-like

    2.8 motor - VM (pity it's not the Cummins)

    Resale value isn't an issue, they won't have one, use it till it expires , $28,000 over 5 years - a ranger would probably achieve that anyway.

    You can probably haggle a superceded new stock triton for $28k(?), and the resale should be significantly better.
