    Foton Tunland

    Gday All,

I need to get a work ute for my new job , and came across 1 of these today. Cheap but Cummins powered 2.8 diesel so would assume the donk should be pretty well bomb proof.

Anyone got 1 or know much about them. ? just chasing an honest view good or bad

    Cheers Ean

Only person I’ve talked to with one liked his but he’d only had it a few months back then. Not sure how they’ve stood up over the last few years to be honest.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Old mans had one for a a few years now and he rants and raves about it. Its honestly just like riding in a hilux with a cummins engine. He hasnt had any problems except for the A.C condenser, and hes done fair amount of klm in it also. I honestly couldnt fault it at all Foton Tunland

Cummins/ Nissan developed engine... however the rest of it would b probably as expected... but for the price, it might be worth it
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Well I have first hand experience of the mighty Foton Tunland as I bought a used 2015 single cab ute with 55,000s on it for $14,000 about 18 months ago as I needed a farm truck and have been following the brands progress with interest over the years.

The thing that interested me originally was Toyota Hilux Chassis and body and the list of Western technology and brands - Cummins engine / Getrag manual gearbox / Borg Warner transfer / Dana diffs and axles / Bosch ABS / Bosch & Continental electronics some of which are made in China and surprisingly some are made in Germany! Dont discount the Chinese made products out of these factories as you would be surprised how many big name brands now source from the same factories.

The newer 2018+ model also comes with an optional ZF 6 speed auto similar but not the same model as the Disco/RRS along with a newer looking more upgraded dash. The new facelift model is out for MY2019

My 2015 model has been great, only thing that has been replaced/reconditioned was the manual gearbox as it crunched when down shifting but this was done under warranty on the dealers request when I went and did my end of warranty check over. I use the Tunnie all the time both on and off road, its not a Land Rover off road but everyone I know says it just drives like the Hilux but for half the price - remember everyone was laughing at Japanese cars and trucks not that long ago then came Korean cars and now Chinese cars and trucks.

I have just purchase a brand new dual cab auto for my work to use for the factory hack having replaced a Mitsubishi Triton and have some very good contacts with Foton Australia if you need some info.

I'm currently looking for a body damaged Tunland auto as I think that this will be the way to go for future repower projects into Land Rovers etc as Cummins themselves are selling the ISF motor in the Tunland as a repower option in the USA especially for Jeeps! The ISF 2.8 just pulls from over 1,200 rpm and suits the auto very well.

Don't be frightened or put off by the ney sayers as they would still be driving around in the horse and carts!

Foton Australia now import directly themselves and not through independent distributors like they have done in the past and are continuing to develop new dealerships and products for the Aussie market.

Oh forgot to mention, most of the Hilux / Prado parts fit the Tunnie - for example front brakes come from the Prado so they are actually bigger than the Hilux!
