    Walls of Jerusalem National Park

I have just spent a few days visiting family in Tasmania and took the opportunity to spend a day with my brother on a walk in the Walls area.

From the carpark it is around an hour to Trappers hut on the Walls Track.

    Trappers Hut

From here we headed towards George Howe's Lake and a change in direction to Tiger Lake and Solitary Man's Hut. This part of the track traverses a pretty valley with many small ice covered tarns and the icy remains of very heavy frosts on the track.

Tiger Lake Notice the broken ice on the water's surface.

    Solitary Man's Hut

The hut was built in 1984 by a bloke who refers to himself as "The Solitary Man". He spent 18 months living here and now regularly returns to clean and patch up his construction. This place has few visitors as it is off the main tourist routes.

To the hut for lunch and return took approximately 5 1/2 hours including photo stops. All in all a pleasant walk, but of course, a tad chilly, although at least it didn't rain.

An afternoon was also spent on the short walk to Westmoreland Falls.

    I didn't recognise trappers hut!!

I did a 3 day walk from the carpark, to trappers hut, dixons kingdom and out the other side, and we had about 2 foot of rain over the three days, in fact most of the last day was walking through knee deep water!

Yes there are. The last time we walked in through the Walls and down to Lakes Ball, Adelaide, Meston, Junction and out via Chalice Lake. It really is a fabulous area.

    Agreed.

Now I have to go back (but I might wait until it's a bit warmer).

Sorry JC. You know what it's like, too few days and not enough time to do anything. I usually visit once a year, but this was first time in 18 months. Original plan was for Pat and I to come down for 2 weeks, but work and other circumstances dictated otherwise. We had every intention of going to Hobart as a mate has just moved back there.

I hope to bring the camper down in the next couple of years and spend a few months doing it properly, walking and driving. A catchup will be on the cards then.
