    my system ?? re Fuel return lines WVO

    After much thought have decided to run the tdi on straight WVO with a pre heater, using 2 tank system. Start on diesel run until op temp and switch over using to wvo using fuel solenoid. Same for shut down but in reverse.

    My system as I see it.

    Main tank remains as is. Second tank 75 liter boat fuel tank which sits comfortably in the rear of the SW. Tank to have fuel line with quick disconnect which will allow me to remove tank with no fiddling around.

    Now the questions? I have been quoted about $100 for fuel solenoid with return line. What’s the consensus? Can i leave the standard return connected, which means WVO will feed back the main tank or should i modify it so WVO returns to its tank. Probably and extra 10 minutes work. Also thinking of fitting a low-pressure fuel pump wired to the fuel solenoid to assist initial flow of WVO.

    I estimate initial setup will be around $600 from scratch.

    In my case I have the fuel tank cost about $275 last year. Comes with pick up points and in tank gauge. I will be replacing the original fuel filters with cav ones. 4 Meters of fuel line, the one that wont rot with oil. Price TBA estimate $60.00. Pre heater inline type $103.00 there is some disagreement whether this is overkill as I live in Nth QLD.
    Connectors and joiners $100.00 estimate TBA

    WVO: Estimate 1 carton of Gold every 3 months as I have a mate with more then he can use.

    More then happy to hear positive and negatives, Have been in contact with many sites and convinced there should be no major issues with motor or components.

    I would plumb it so the WVO returns to its own tank as you dont want to risk it solidifying in the main tank. I would keep the 2 systems totally seperate as in a dual fuel situation so as not to interfere with running on the other fuel in case of failure of either system.

    Having seen the internals of a Bosch VE that failed on WVO, I'd never do it.

    But...

    I'd advise that you blank the lift pump and use an electric pump... It's only going to be problems shifting WVO with a standard lift pump.

    Try and track down the Jan edition of Land Rover Monthly - they do a conversion in a 300tdi defender - has some more complicated plumbing, but essentially what you said.

    I'd be worried about that set up as the oil won't be hot enough when injected.
    Have a look at the SVO section on this site http://www.biofuelsforum.com/ These blokes are very well informed (some through years of experience) and will be able to answer your questions. There is a guy on there from Brisbane who has modified his 300tdi. It is also worth looking here Vegie Cars - VegieCars, Chip Oil, Veggie Cars, WVO, SVO, UCO, Veggie Oil, Carbon Cops, Biodiesel, Biofuel (worth purchasing the booklet). I plan to convert my 300tdi over the Easter long weekend and will be using the 2 tank system outlined by Veggie Cars. It is worth knowing the 300tdi requires injector line heaters, even in Queensland. I live in Brisbane, tested them and found they do not stay hot enough keep the WVO at optimal temp before injection. Have a look at the conversion picture on this forum Disco on WVO This bloke lives in Brisbane and found the 300tdi didn't run properly without the line heaters (even in Summer). A few other things; don't use copper pipe anywhere there is WVO and make sure you remove all dissolved water in the WVO before you use it.

    Followup to WVO

    Further investigation has lead me to the below site from England.

    Can't work hyperlink so forgive me. Anyway they believe that a Heat exchanger is enough. There appears to be negatives for each positive.

    Will continue investigation into the matter
