Had a feller on a tagalong over the christmas hols who had a Jokeroo diesel on vegie oil.
He was getting waste oil from a chinese restaurant. Ony problen was, his car smelt like a dim sim shop on the move, and made everybody hungry for a while, then just plain nauseous.
I've not eaten chinese since!

I am not a fan of the vegi oil, just to many down sides, stuff gumming up etc. on the othere hand Bio is good stuff, but if you realy want to run vegi oil, blend it with diesel up to 50%. but every 3rd tank run just diesel to try and help degunk the internals, bio will degunk everything. Bio being a solvent, diesel being an oil.

Hi,

Has anyone in AULRO actually run their TD5 (or TDV6) on veggie oil, and if so for what period. I am assuming that Canola would be the cheapest, and to use it blended with diesel, as straight veg oil would be too thick, especially in Winter.
Any servicing issues associated with use?

Couple of hundred bucks worth of solenoid valves, tube & wires for $2400. Not bad if you can get away with it.

Make yourself a bio reactor out of a 44 gallon drum and make proper diesel.

Plenty of info on the net. (journey forever etc)

I strongly advise not running the TD5 on other than diesel grade fuels...

It can be done
It can be done with very little going wrong (well done to you if you pull it off)
If anything is off spec when you start the bio will make it worse.
when it does decide to let go it will be kind of spectacular and costly....

the deefer fuel pump issomething like $1100
each injector is $1400ish


running bio is a gamble on the TD5 but I still highly reccomend it for the lower and medium injection pressure engines like the 2.25, TDi's and the suzi 3.9 3.6 and 3.3

With the price of diesel fast approaching $2/Litre we are going to have to seriously look at alternatives.

Has anyone tried cheap (new) bulk canola oil mixed equally with mineral diesel in TD5?
Mixture should not be too thick for pump & injectors without pre heating.

well, the wife has won, she has the TD5 and im keeping the TDI,

tell me where to get canola oil in SA and i will sort it out, i will be back on monday so i can start playing around with it next week, if i have the oil that is

You'll be hard pressed to find new canola or veg oil for less than $1.40 per litre. A 20 L drum is around $30, and as you aren't paying the relevant excises by using it as a fuel, you could get into trouble. Places like Campbell's Cash and Carry etc have been notified to treat large orders of oils with suspicion, and with all those places you need a customer account etc and usually ABN. Its not easy to just randomly buy quantities of canola/veg.
