    100% bio in 200TDI

I am half way through a tank of 100% bio in the Disco. Starts just as easy as it did with Diesil and I haven't notice any difference in pulling power. Kalamunda Rd hill is where I make that judgement.
The fuel economy may have dropped but I'll check that out properly on the second tank fill.
I have a query though, when I picked up the drum from Bioworks they said that there is a rubber part in the injection pump that will be affected by the bio and will need to be replaced with a 'viton rubber' part.

Does anyone know what this part may be?
    Thanks

Any seal in the fuel system can be affected by biodiesel.

It is unlikely that one or two tanks of biodiesel will cause you problems unless your pump/seals/fuel lines are already in trouble.

From what I've read Viton seals were standard from about 1996. If you've had your injector pump rebuilt in the last few years the seals would most likely be Viton.

Rebuilding the pump is quite expensive.

Again from what I've read running alternative tanks of Biodiesel and diesel causes the seals to expand and shrink.

    Cheers

theres 2 or 3 seals (depending on your pumps exact configuration) wait till they leak then take it to a diesel specialist to replace them unless your are seriously confident in your spannering skills. Keep an eye on your oil level as if the bottom one starts to leak you may only notice a slight weep on the outside (if any) but your fuel will wind up in your oil.

you can replace just the upper one if it starts to leak but if it does you are still better off getting them all done in one hit.

I would be interested to know how much it cost (approx). Found the bioworks website and they just say to call them, with no other info.

So what is the deal? Do they drop off a drum when you want it?

No you need to order it. As for delivery I don't know, I picked mine up.

I paid $1.25 litre but I ordered it early May. Purchased 2 x 200 ltr drums. Since the diesil price hike they put it up to $1.40/LTR. don't know what it is now. They offer $0.05 a Ltr discount if you order >1000 ltrs.
They won't supply in owners drums due Q contol issues. you pay $33 per drum deposit and use their's.

    Hi Dave

Don't understand how fuel will end up in the sump. Unlke say ealier Perkins deisels, On the 200 tdi, if the drive shaft seal in the FIP fails it will leak into the timing belt housing then out to the enviroment via the wading plug hole. AFAIK any other seal leak will drop out onto the road.

Have read elsewhere that crankcase dilution will result due incomplete combustion. Don't know about that either though I daily check the sump oil level.
Wil keep the site posted on any developments, good or bad

correct, my bad, had my head stuck in series diesel world where the FIP is mounted on the head and can feed the oil from its link to the camshaft....

in that case, keep an eye on the drain of the timing cover

the problem with the dilution caused by incomplete combustion IMHO is more a problem if

    1. you dont get a good start (its too cold, your low on compression)
    2. your engine is slow to warm up and you work it cold
    3. youre not getting correct atomisation out of the injectors and are getting a needle jet output
    4. your having injector leakdown thats dropping the residual pressure from the FIP and the injectorline out of the injector after shutdown

but if your getting any of those problems you should have other far more noticable indications and symptoms aside from a raising oil level.

Been running 100% biodiesel for months now. Get it at Fina in Thomastown. Pay $1.45 a litre and it comes out of a regular pump. Changed the fuel filter after the first tankful and she has never missed a beat. I reckon I am getting about the same fuel economy. I also run lpg so the diesel burns off really well and I get increased power. Very happy with it. Next stepo is to do some more reading on here and start brewing mt own. Found a few local fish n chip shops who don't sell their oil.
