Video- Moving from tape to SD card

I have a pretty basic question that's a bit hard to google.
I currently use a DVR taping on to DV tapes at 1280x960 res.
I'm looking at -say- a Sanyo VPC-CG10 that tapes at 1280x720- which is a lot cheaper than the 1920x1080 res camera's
Im I right assuming the newer 1280x720 camera's capture around the same quallity as my older tape one?
Or is there more to it.?

    tis a bit tricky..

What video camera are you currently using? If your using DV with that res it would probably be pretty decent and I think you might be downgrading if you go for the Sanyo.. depends what you want to do with it though...

but to answer your question.. I would say the picture would be of a similar quality.

I just bought the Sanyo Xacti high def camera today.
I think the quality is similar but this unit creams the previous format in ease of use, battery life etc etc.
    Early days though
My previous camera was a JVC GR-DVL320, the recording head is shot & I only have about 15 completed tapes ( I was paranoid of taping over & then computer crash).
