    Iceland...

... it's not just one big ugly volcano stopping all air travel, so I thought I post a few photos from my last rip. Just a warm-up really, since I'm heading over there again later this year ... provided one can fly to Europe once again

I visited in winter when even the waterfalls were frozen in mid flow.

Seeing those images makes me want to go back again NOW.

Very stunning images. Can you tell me what lens' you use and any filters to get such depth and clarity.

Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 ... for all the wide stuff (about 50% of my photos). Worth every cent that lens, for a landscape shooter!

I also use the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8, though I'm less pleased with it especially at the wide end (but luckily I've got the 14-24 for that).

And my tele during this trip was a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. Reasonably happy with the optical performance (that shot of the boat was done with a 2x tele converter), though there's a fair bit of ligth fall-off in the corners. But I'm afraid it didn't handle the frezzing rain too well, and the AF no longer works reliably.

The Camera was a D700 btw.

Also, I rarely use filters, except NDs when I need to either extend the exposure time or open up the aperture for some reason. The D700 has so much dynamic range that post processing can do wonders for everything else...

Bit out of the way, and a bit pricey, true. But well worth the effort! Besides, you'll see some awesome 'fenders

Thanks for that. I was talking to my old man (chucaro) about getting a lens of that range as the smallest I have is 28... so im struggling. Tasmania is the place for landscapes with rolling hills for k's on end and large uninhabited beaches.

So, now to save for one... bugger.
