Perhaps the best is to look in KEH.com

Just to give you an idea my 70-300 VR (excellent lens) cost new just under $ 1000
KEH have one for sale for U$A 479.00

You can get here in OZ the 18-200 new for $700 HERE

I would inspect your frien lens very well in case of mould build up inside and not pay more than $ 450 for it.

Read about the lens HERE and HERE

    Both sites are excellent
    Cheers

I was thinking about $350 for the lens and $100 for the uv filter on it (that was $212 new), so maybe around $500 would be a fair price. No mould or any thing, perfect condition and has just been serviced.

    Hi
The dune pics today and the toad stool from the other day are with the lens, All pics straight off the camera. With my current lens my images seem like they are all about one stop over exposed but these seem about right
    cheers

I do not know which model of Nikon you have, but if you take the images in NEF the exposure can be corrected during PP and it is good because when over exposed 1 stop there will be les ISO noise @ settings over 400ISO.

The D90 it is Ok regarding ISO noise compared with the D80 and D200.
In any case if you like set it @ 800 ISO and try one shot a one step over exposure and the other shot with the exposure spot on.
Correct the exposure in PP and have a look the noise on both images.
