Post your birdlife shots

Our local swallows teach their young to skim water and bathe in our swimming pool even though it is a salt water pool. They sit on the fence and watch the adult birds until they are game to try. They even do it when we are in the pool. We even have a Kookaburra that jumps off the fence and goes right in.

We were watching three Fuscous honey eaters at Crusoe reservoir in Bendigo and taking some photos. Then in a blink of an eye a Yellow Footed Antechinus jumped out and grabbed one of the birds.
It scurried off up the tree with the dead bird while the two remaining ones attacked it. It eventually dropped the dead bird then went down to the ground to collect it. The other two honey eaters continued to attack the Antechinus.
Helen managed to get some video footage too.

That really is an amazing encounter! The chances of that happening while you were watching!

So, did the antechinus end up keeping its meal?

Yes it did.
But took a while to get its prey. It dropped the dead bird as the other birds were harassing the antechinus but then managed to go down the to ground and pick it up again. It took off into some fallen branches to have a feed.

Great footage.

We were down the road yesterday,at the park,the dog was sniffing around at the base of a large tree,out shoots a rat.
The rat headed off across an open area,dog didnt see it,still sniffing around the base of the tree.
A Black Shouldered Kite came out of no where,dived down and grabbed the rat and headed off to the tallest tree in the area.
It sat there and ate the rat,and also rippped pieces of it off and gave them to its partner.

No pics,didnt have the camera with us.[bigsad]

Wow that would have been amazing to see.

Cleaned up and cropped this pic,taken a few yrs ago with our much loved 5DMk3,that has since been drowned😩
