    Seriously though, Arthur to get the best results you'd be looking at a decent prime. 400 F2.8/500 F4/600 F4.
    Personally, 400 F2.8 with extenders offers the best versatility. You could get away with a 300 F2.8 + ext.

    Its all about the "money pit"

    Yes I agree, the 500 f/4 is razor sharp in all settings but $10000 + it is a bit expensive for me now.
    I guess that a 300 primer with estenders will have to do in the future and gt a little boat with electric motor to get closer.

    I have a Nikkor 300mm here that when put on a DX Camera becomes 450mm... Which is pretty good. Very sharp lens.

    The Nikon 300mm f/4 it is the one that I am chasing to use with a 1.4 converter.
    The crop factor it is equal to a 450mm but not the reach.
