    New lens from Nikon

Nikon will be have on the market in Setember a new 28-300mm f/ 3.5- 5.3 VR lens which if it have a good optics like the 70-300VR will be a great lens to have.
The RRP is $1045 which it is only $50 above the 70-300.
The news are HERE and in the Nikon page

Not nice, but I bet they will sell a lot. The one I'm keen to see more about is the new 24-120mm f/4 G VRII. This sounds very interesting.

I'm also pleased to see the 85mm f/1.4 G but surprised they didn't put VR in it. I've held off buying the 85mm f/1.4D as I wanted the newer optics and was hoping for VR too

They have release 3 FX lenses and 1 DX lens:
    55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR DX
    24-120mm f/4G VR FX
    28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G VR FX
    85mm f/1.4G FX

and of course the D3100 which really makes me wonder what the D90 replacement will be like. I'm thinking that it will be a good second light weight body to have when it comes out.

If the optic quality is a good as my 70-300VR it is very nice, believe me.
The optic quality of the 70-300VR up to 200mm it is rated by labs as good as the top of the range 200mm zoom lens by Nikon.

Arthur, don't get me wrong I think there is a need for an optically sound super zoom. There are times I still drag out the 18-200 on my D200 as it lets me take one lens and I'm not too concerned about the quality or speed of focus. The same applies to the 28-300 and it's also FX! I don't think it will be as good as the 70-300 but that is DX. But I suspect it will help sell a lot more D700 bodies to people who don't want to swap lenses and just want a FX DSLR. I just think Nikon could have done more with other lenses that need updating (e.g. 80-400).

The 24-120 f/4 though does intrigue me as this means I have the little extra reach over the 24-70 and VR. I'm not worried about loosing 1 stop over f/2.8 and as it's also fixed aperture. It means I have the near equivalent of the 14-24 + 24-70 when on a DX body in one lens on FX. Of course this all depends on what the performance is like.

The 24-120 with a 12-24 lens combo would be ideal for walk about photography specially if buldings and attractions in the big smog it is on the cards.

Interesting lens, we just have to see what are the results on the reviews.

I treat lenses like Microsoft software... wait a while until the reviews come in to decide if to spend or not :P
