    pictures damaged

    Hi,

bit in a panik. Took 900 pictures last week and wanted to download them to the PC. All pics are ok up to 380 but everything after that I can only see the filenames and size but no picture. It tells me files are damaged or too large. They all look ok size wise (3-6M. What should I do ? I've downloaded them to the laptop but have to format the SD card so I can take more shots.

Everything after 380 does not show on the camera either. It says "file does not contain image data". It's a Nikon D90.

I had a similar problem but managed to recover nearly all with this program and a card reader:

Some times the problem is because the user only delete the files from the card after download them instead of formating the card.
Always format your cards after you are sure thet the files are in your PC.
SanDisk have a program for recovering data HERE

Im now in the habit to format the card after I have downloaded the images, but I also format the card again just before I start shooting. I also use 4gig cards only, no larger, but carry a few so that if one fails I havent lost the lot of photos.

    Hi,

borrowed a 1GB card from my little one today. Told her she can't take any more pictures ;-)

Tried PC inspector but the problem is that the software thinks the files are ok. The files look ok and are all named correct and have the correct file size but no other content. If I check the properties I can't see date taken or resolution or anything just the file size.
Looks like this might be Kakadu National Park without pictures

Will have a look at the other tools tonight.

Edit: looks like those tools all look for deleted/formated pictures. The files are there there is just something wrong with the files themselfes.

So I take it that you copied the files from the card to your PC and inspected it there? I would do a search on the net and see if there are any utilities that can help repair files.
