('course I never did, the amateur I am used to rattle off rolls and rolls )
As far as technology goes film had a very long run. Sure it was enhanced and upgraded, but it was the same basic process for so long.

I used to put a lot of thought into each click back in the film days, particularly when I was still at school and couldn't really afford it. That motorwind was probably the most expensive cheap thing I ever bought! But now I just click like a maniac and I get a much lower hit rate per frame, but a massively better hit rate per trip.

    Cheers, Steve

Imagine if automotive technology made the same leap ... electric LRs with a range of 500km per charge, and petrol & diesel go the way of negative & slide films.
Would we miss the days when we had to think and work out the budget for a trip to the bush?

Film never went away for me ... I've always been 100% film dedicated with my photography ... Velvia 100/100F usually. What has been happening is that film sales have just adjusted for the pro market now while digital has largely filled the niche of the man on the street as well as pro photographers. Plenty of pro photographers still shooting film, and rightly so.

I love the look of film and the process of working with transparency ... using it still for 35mm, 6x7 MF and 4x5 LF.

    Simon.
