Thread: How to delete photos from Canon on Mac?

I am not familiar with Canon but I guess that the cards have to be treated like the cards in any other camera.
After you downloaded the images, do not delete them, just format the card.
It is the best if you do not like to have corrupted images in the future.

Simple.....get a PC.

Seriously, after 20 years with PCs, if I had to buy another computer tomorrow, I honestly think Id opt for another Mac. There are a few oddities, but on the whole, much better.

I am writing this on a MacBook Pro..... Running Windows 7 Ultimate... I can choose the default OS to start.. Mac OS is not the default..

It is a application thing, not a Mac thing.

Lightroom (and I guess Aperture) will not allow you to delete files from the SD card as this is not a sound workflow. They are worried that the import failed and you no longer have the originals. Old versions of lightroom did let you import & delete in one step.

So I've updated my workflow to suit the new application settings. I import with lightroom as normal and then open the SD card as if it was another drive in explorer and MOVE the files directly to my backup drive. That way I have the lightroom import and a copy of the originals as well as an empty card. I used to do it in the other order, but this way works better with the new lightroom behavior.

I'm sure the Mac has a way to view the files on the camera/card as if they were a USB stick or similar.

I use Aperture 3 and import picture files from my Panasonic TZ 10 7 and 5 cameras and after import l get the message do you want to delete picture files and then l get another message warning me that deleting picture files will occur and they get deleted off the card, the little red ACCESS message appears on the camera display showing the deletion process occurring.

You can also opt to disconnect the camera without deleting picture files and then manually from the camera delete format the card

Suggest you have look at your Aperture settings options as you may have clicked a do not ask me this again option about deleting the pictures after the completion of the upload, l did this once using Aperture and it never asked me again to about whether to delete the pictures or not and l had to reset the option in the menu options in Aperture

If your canon is connected by the right cable to your IMac via USB it should show up as a No Name drive on your screen and come up automatically when using Aperture as import source and you then create a new project folder or nominate an existing folder project to import to.

Otherwise you remove the card from the camera and use a card reader to import the pictures to Aperture and previous comment about deletion option applies.

Suggest you check your cannon connection camera cable actual is working properly it sounds it may be dodgy, had similar problem when l bought a spare cable off eBay to take with me when travelling to connect camera to cafe internet computers to upload to my flicker account or send emails and leave factory original connected to iMac at home
