procrastination leads to confusion - need help :p

    procrastination is the pits

the D90 with the 18-105 is tugging at me and then i see a d3100 with both a 18-55 and a 55-300 VR lense kit for less and then there is the canon offerings...

or stick with the fuji or ????????

bearing in mind i am a photographic bunny, oh wise ones, what the hell should i get?

your considered opinions please. considering i will not be entering competitions etc etc but would love to be able to take a decent shot of the things i am interested in

i want to take photos of in order of mostly done

    1) family snaps

    2) vehicles at swap meets etc etc

    3) birds on my property, especially the little ones (fairy wrens etc) that are often 100ft away

    4) landscape shots

    5) nice flower shots

Thought about all that and couldn't be stuffed mucking around with the lenses again and so when for a super zoom compact.

Chose the Panasonic FZ-35 due to the HD video at the push of a button while focusing for a still shot.

Sony and others have good units too.

Don't know if they are an alternative for you Dave?

If you go down the dSLR route don't discount Pentax

    eg Pentax K7 DSLR Camera

Have you had a play with them in a shop? The difference in ergonomics might make a big difference.

A fixed lens doesn't give you much option for the future.

At a hundred metres you're bird pics aren't going look too hot on the Finepix.

played with a d90 tonite with the 18-105 vr on it and was very comfortable i thought.

but from what i have garnered i will need to go to a 300 lens to get my fairy wrens in really good shots....

Personally, I have decided to go nikon - mainly because all of our (nearby) friends also use nikon - so in case we want to borrow a lens...

However pentax seem the best alue for money by far if you think you will just buy a body and a couple of lenses.

    I an now trying to decide between a D300s and a D7000

Inc, for sure you have read many posts here about cameras and lens and almost all the posters believe that the lens it is the most important component.

My recomendation is that if you go for Nikon go like this:

Get a body only which feel comfortable in your hands
make sure that you can use the following excellent lens and much better than the ones in the kit.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 an aweome optics excellent for family portraits and low light and super cheap. About $ 115

This lens on the D90($689) will be equivalent to a 75mm lens in a full frame camera.

Nikon 70-300 VR, excellent lens good for sports, birds and wildlife photography. I use it for my birds photos with the D300s
This lens cost $ 468 absolutely bargain, cost me $ 1000 on a Nikon dealer
Will work well with the D90
    Cheers
    Arthur
