ANYONE FAMILIAR WIH NIKON D3000?

After forty+ years with a variety of 35mm SLR's in late 2009 I found myself with two broken ones that were not economical to repair. I bought myself a Christmas present of my first DSLR, a Nikon D3000. The learning curve has been steep and sometimes frustrating, not being used to cameras with a 20mm thick instruction book that uses terms and discusses processes I had never before dreamed of.

Last week I tried to make what Nikon call a "Stop-Motion Movie". After quite a frustrating time trying, what with the camera turning itself off quicker than I could read the relevant instructions I learned how to extend the auto-off. What with the camera turning off at each step I ended up with a stuffed up movie I did not want to keep. Now, how do I delete the thing? Nothing in the book mentions this. Nikon's help line no help at all. He didn't know either. He suggested I press the delete button twice. Sorry, nothing happens.

Does anyone out there know how to delete this?

Next question. Once I have a "Stop-Motion Movie" in the camera, how do I download it to computer so I can e-mail it? No mention of this in the bloody useless book either. Nor did the Nikon No Help At All Line know.

To make the stop motion movie..

You take a bunch of pictures.

Goto the retouch menu. Second one from the bottom on the left, then the very last option in that list is stop motion movie.

select that. Select the pictures you wish to use (can only select start the end) ie (select img1 and then img10 and all the images in between will be used as well as 1 and 10)

then select save. You have to option to actually save it.. preview it.. edit the frame rate.

select save.

it is then a 'movie' that you can view like the rest of the pictures on the camera..

You can import it like you would the pictures.. through nikons software. or copying the files off the SD.

and because you view it like all the other pictures you just press the delete button twice to delete the movie.

Done all that, made the movie. Can't delete it. No, delete twice does NOT work. No mention in the book as to how to download it to computer and Nikon No Help Line can't tell me. Can you give me step by step instructions. e.g along the lines of press this, now press this, now do this, and so on.

If all else fails and you have retrieved everything you need from the memory card then reformat it in the camera.

Make sure you have your photos by either

Downloading from SD card or Camera connected via USB cable provided.

SD Card. (card reader required)

Remove SD card from camera.
Insert into PC card reader.
Open computer or my computer (assuming you running windows)
navigate to the SD card. Should read NIKON D3000.
open it up..
Should have a folder DCIM open that then should have a folder or multiple folders in those folder(s) are your pictures.
Copy them onto your computer. select pictures. right click copy
goto where you want to save them ie My pictures. Right click Paste.
then remove card. Insert into camera. Press menu button move to you find format memory card. then ok ok.

Using camera and NIKON transfer.

turn on camera and connect usb cable provided to both camera and computer.
open up nikon transfer.
select camera
select destination for pictures to be saved the click start (going from memory.)
once done make sure your pictures are there then unplug camera.
Press menu button move to you find format memory card. then ok ok.

Highly recommend formating your card. I format mine before every shoot.
